Description
One of the research projects of the council of Engineering Courses of the University of Minho (Portugal) is aimed at improving student learning through involvement in the assessement process. The first year students of the Civil Engineering course participated in three subjects that required an extensive and growing responsability in their own assessment of learning. Students assessed and grated each other at three diferent assessent tasks, using student defined criteria and they completed a questionnaire on their perceptions of peer-assessent, their self condfidence, their ability to assess and to grade their peer. They compared traditional assessementwith peer assessement. The results of the closed questions indicateon the on hand on ability and self confidence with regarde to assessing their peer, the open comments on the other and show a certain discomfort with the concept of peer assessment. The article explores the perception of students of the assessment process.
