Tese de mestrado, Ciências da Documentação e Informação, Universidade de Lisboa, Faculdade de Letras, 2011 As tecnologias de informação e comunicação originaram uma mudança de paradigma no acesso e na disponibilização da informação e na forma e modo como a biblioteca responde às solicitações e necessidades de informação dos seus públicos. Actualmente, a biblioteca não possui limites físicos nem temporais. Deixou, definitivamente, o espaço físico e instalou-se no ciberespaço. A biblioteca é virtual, é digital. A biblioteca é o mundo! Nesta perspectiva, a biblioteca dispõe de um sítio Web, disponibiliza o seu catálogo online, subscreve produtos e conteúdos científicos online, assina bases de dados, … Se as colecções são digitais, também os serviços se estão a transformar e a adaptar a esta realidade. Se as colecções podem ser acedidas em qualquer momento e a partir de qualquer lugar, os serviços também podem ser prestados em qualquer momento, desde qualquer lugar. Com este projecto pretendemos analisar as potencialidades de um Serviço de Referência Digital, averiguar como as Bibliotecas Parlamentares da União Europeia respondem aos pedidos de informação dos seus utilizadores e propor à Biblioteca da Assembleia da República a implementação de um serviço de referência digital, que responda aos pedidos de informação em tempo real e que contribua para a agilização do processo de referência e para melhorar a qualidade dos serviços prestados aos utilizadores internos. Abstract: Information and communication technologies gave rise to a change in accessing and offering information as well as in the way the library responds to information requests and needs from their public. Nowadays the library does not have any physical or time limits. It has finally and permanently left the physical space and has settled in cyberspace. The library is virtual, it is digital. The library is the world! In this perspective, the library has a website, its online catalogue, it subscribes scientific products and contents online, databases … As the collections are digital, the services are also changing and heading towards this reality. As the collections can be accessed at any time from any place, the services can also be offered on this basis: any time, any place. This project aims at analysing the potentialities of a Service of Digital Reference, how the EU Parliamentary Libraries respond to their users’ information requests, and proposing to the Library of the Assembly of the Republic (Portuguese Parliament) the implementation of a service of digital reference which answers the information requests in real time and both enhances the reference process and improves the quality of the services offered to internal users.
