Description
Tese de mestrado, Educação artística, Universidade de Lisboa, Faculdade de Belas Artes, 2011 This dissertation is based on a study of the observation and behavioural analysis
of 7th graders (12 to 15 years old), when given the opportunity of seeing art works, think
about them, learn about the life and work of the artists and choose a material/technique
to produce their own interpretation of those works. The study was based on a work unit of the Plastic Expression subject and on the participation in the VIII Concurso de Expressão Plástica “Olhar Helena e Arpad”, promoted by APECV (Associação de Professores de Expressão e Comunicação Social). The first part refers to revision of the literature, trying to know the teaching methods used in the Western Countries, which have always had a more practical way of teaching, more inclined to “know how to do”, emphasising the authors who became important through their work or ideas, and thinking about different methods and processes of teaching/learning. This is a look at the past for the understanding of the present, in order to enable the development of the teaching process. The second part concentrates on the development of the students‟ work and on the analysis of how they behave towards the art works before them (Helena Vieira da Silva e Arpad Szenes). The question here is whether the “know how” is, or isn‟t, important to the enjoyment and/or production of art works. In this reflection on the students‟ work we try to answer this question by reviewing the situations in which the students were more engaged in the activities. The student shows more interest for the art works when he gets to know something more about it, through the critical discussion in group. When the student reinterprets the art work using different techniques and/or materials, he understands it. The conclusion has some suggestions to complete this study in the future and to help students when making their more practical works, according to the document from the Ministry of Education on the essential competences for teaching
