Description
Nosocomial infections (NIs) are acquired by patients during hospitalization (Nakamura & Tompkins, 2012), caused by an unbalance between the microbial flora and the patient's defense mechanism, or by the environment's colonization with pathogenic agents (Pereira et al., 2005). NIs are really important because they can cause serious consequences to the animal's health and well-being, worsen its primary condition (Braga, 2008). The main objective of this research consisted in a review of the principal infections that occur in a veterinary hospital, along with original pictures from the authors, explaining the most correct technique for hand hygiene to prevent those infections.
