Description

The main feline infectious not zoonotic diseases include, among others, diseases of viral aetiology, including: - Feline panleukopenia caused by feline panleukopenia virus (FPV), from Parvoviridae family; - Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), caused by feline infectious peritonitis virus (FIPV), a biotype of feline coronavirus (FCoV), Coronaviridae family; - The feline retroviruses, feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency caused by feline leukemia virus (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), respectively, both from Retroviridae family. Nursing care is critical to the recovery of cats afected by these viruses and has to be adjusted, according to the disease in question but also to the individual case. In order to successfully meet this goal, veterinary nurses must have exact and precise knowledge about the virus, its behavior and properties, improved means of disinfection, vaccination programs and it’s benefits, as well as prophylactic measures to be implemented, topics that will be developed in this work.
