Description
The incidence of cancer in companion animals has been increasing in the last years. Cancer is a well known cause of pain in human beings and animals alike. As pain affects negatively the quality of life and most of the important physiological functions, its recognition and treatment must always be a priority. Animal behaviour can provide semi-objective information on the presence and the degree of pain felt by the animal. In spite of the many barriers in the correct treatment of pain in the veterinary patient, its relief, besides being physiologic and biologically important, is fundamental from an ethical point of view.
