Felisberto, P.; Zabel, F.; Rodriguez, O. C.; Santos, P.; Jesus, S. M.; Champenois, W.; Borges, A. V.; Santos, Rui

This work discusses the data acquired during two experiments conducted in October 2011 and May 2013 in the Bay of la Revellata, Calvi, Corsica for the purpose of developing an acoustic system for monitoring the oxygen production of a seagrass meadow.

During the period of one week, from May 8 to 15, 2013, acoustic data was gathered at three locations over a Posidonia oceanica bed in the Bay of Revellata, Corsica. Preliminary analysis of the acoustic data shows that the environmental noise field in the band 2-7kHz was dominant during the period. The noise in this band is generally associated with wind and surface agitation. However, the noise power was not si...

Acoustic monitoring of the oxygen production of a seagrass meadow

Felisberto, P.; Zabel, F.; Martins, C.; Jesus, S. M.

This paper discusses the data acquired in the Bay of la Revellata, Calvi, Corsica during October 2011 for the purpose of developing an acoustic system for monitoring the oxygen production of a seagrass meadow. In a range dependent very shallow water area, densely covered by Posidonia Oceanica seagrass , a sound source transmitted chirp signals in 3 different bands (400-800Hz, 1.5-3.5kHz and 6.5-8.5kHz) to 100m ...

Design of a UAN node capable of high-data rate transmission

Zabel, F.; Martins, C.; Silva, A.

In recent years, underwater acoustic networks have become one of the most challenging topics in ocean acoustics.

Seagrass workshop sea trial data report

Felisberto, P.; Zabel, F.; Martins, C.

Rep 04/11 - SiPLAB October/2011 ; The Seagrass Workshop sea trial took place in a very shallow water area in front of STARESO (Station the recherchessous-marines et oceanographiques), Punta la Revellata, Gulf of Calvi, Corsica from 10 to 19 October 2011, in the frameworkof the Action ES0906 (Seagrass productivity: from genes to ecosystem management) supported by the FP7 Programme COST (European Cooperation in ...

The TV-APM interface: a web service for collaborative modeling

Rodriguez, O. C.; Silva, A. J.; Zabel, F.; Jesus, S. M.

Current development of Internet access, together with available zero-cost Open Source applications (like, for instance, PHP, Python, etc.) can be integrated in order to minimize the constrains induced by the geographical separation of international centers, which collaborate in a given project. The advantage of such approach lies in the sharing of common analysis methods, without particular constrains to specif...

An environmental equalizer for underwater acoustic communications Tested at Hyd...

Silva, A.; Zabel, F.; Mertins, C.; Ijaz, S.; Jesus, S. M.

It is known that small changes in source and receiver locations can cause significant changes in underwater acoustic channel impulse responses. At HYDRALAB III an underwater acoustic experiment was conducted to show that a source depth-shift causes a frequency-shift in the channel impulse response and that such behavior can be used to implement an environmental-based equalizer for underwater communications that...

Underwater Acoustic simulations with a time variable acoustic propagation model

Silva, A.; Rodriguez, O. C.; Zabel, F.; Huilery, J.; Jesus, S. M.

The Time Variable Acoustic Propagation Model (TV-APM) was developed to simulate underwater acoustic propagation in time-variable environments. Such environment variability induces a strong Doppler channel spread, which is an important factor to test and evaluate the performance of equalization algorithms. In current simulations, Doppler spread is usually included a posteriori in a stationary Acoustic Propagatio...

UAN. Subsurface telemetry unit (STU)

Zabel, F.; Martins, C.; Silva, A.

SiPLAB Report 03/10, FCT, University of Algarve,2010. ; This document describes an underwater acoustic data acquisition system, made of a subsurface telemetry unit (STU), an underwater array of acoustic and non acoustic sensors and a cable connected base station (BS). The telemetry unit includes a digital storage unit for the acquired data, a communications system through a fibre optic data and a power link to...

CALCOM'10 Sea Trial - field calibration data report

Felisberto, P.; Jesus, S. M.; Zabel, F.

Rep 04/10 - SiPLAB November/2010 ; The CALCOM'10 sea trial took place in a region SSE of Vilamoura from 22nd to 24th June to support WEAM & PHITOM projects. The rst day was devoted to equipment testing and calibration. The second and third days were devoted to eld calibration and underwater communications. This report refers to eld calibration data acquired 23rd June, Day 2, and 24th June, Day 3.
