Patrício, M B; Departamento de Radioterapia, Instituto Português de Oncologia de Francisco Gentil, Lisboa.

After an historical review of the progressive improvement of Radiotherapy of Hodgkin's Disease, the authors present the actual management concepts with special reference to prognostic factors. So, the actual strategy of Hodgkin's Disease aims above all not to lower the "cure" values lately reached but to reduce the iatrogenic pathology trying not to treat to much the good prognosis subgroups. Whole body irradiation before bone marrow transplantation.

Jorge, L; Departamento de Radioterapia, Instituto Português de Oncologia de Francisco Gentil, Lisboa.; Pereira, M E; de Matos, H; Patrício, M B

Preliminary results of hiperfraccionated total body irradiation (TBI) in eleven patients with acute leukemia (mean age 11.4 years) as conditioning for allogeneic bone marrow transplantation are presented. The linear accelerator was always used for photon irradiation in 3 daily fractions of 120 cGy, to a total dose of 1320 cGy in 4 days. With a follow-up of 3-24 months we obtained good results. The average time ...

Clode, W H; Departamento de Radioterapia, Instituto Português de Oncologia de Francisco Gentil, Centro Regional de Lisboa.; Patrício, M B; Ricardo, J A

Skin allografts were performed in 51 BALB/c female mice by means of an easy technique devised by the authors. The skin for the allografts was taken from C57BL/6 male mice. All the mice were homozygotic. One month after the graft, the female mice were irradiated with 400 cGy of Co60. A control group of 148 female mice belonging to the same strain and with the same age were irradiated in equal conditions. All the...

The radiotherapy of advanced breast cancer.

Patrício, M B; Departamento de Radioterapia, IPOFG, Lisboa.; Pereira, M E; Ramos, J; Neves, M

The authors discuss the indications for radiotherapy in late breast cancer, retrospectively analysing the experience of the Radiotherapy Department of the Portuguese Institute of Oncology in Lisbon. Treatment results of locally advanced cancer (T4a-b-c) with megavoltage machines (telecobalt therapy) using two different types of fractionation regimes are discussed. They conclude that conventional fractionation r...
