Spectral and Photophysical Studies of Substituted Indigo Derivatives in Their K...

Melo, J. Sérgio Seixas de; Rondão, Raquel; Burrows, Hugh D.; Melo, Maria J.; Navaratnam, Suppiah; Edge, Ruth; Voss, Gundula

The spectral and photophysical properties of indigo derivatives with di-, tetra-, and hexa-substitution in their neutral (keto) form are investigated in solution. The study comprises absorption and emission spectra, together with quantitative measurements of quantum yields of fluorescence (φF) and singlet oxygen formation (φΔ) and fluorescence lifetimes. The energy difference between the HOMO and LUMO orbitals ...

A comparative study of water soluble 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(2,6-dichloro-3-sulfoph...

Monteiro, Carlos J. P.; Pereira, Mariette M.; Azenha, M. Emilia; Burrows, Hugh D.; Serpa, Carlos; Arnaut, Luís G.; Tapia, M. J.; Sarakha, Mohamed

5,10,15,20-Tetrakis(2,6-dichloro-3-chlorosulfophenyl)porphyrin and its tin and zinc complexes were synthesized with high yields and fully characterized. The corresponding water-soluble 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(2,6-dichloro-3-sulfophenyl)porphyrins were obtained by hydrolysis with water. An extensive photophysical study of the new water soluble porphyrinic compounds was carried out including absorption and fluorescen...

Characterization of the Triplet State of Tris(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminium(III)...

Burrows, Hugh D.; Fernandes, Mariana; Melo, J. Seixas de; Monkman, Andrew P.; Navaratnam, Suppiah

The lowest triplet state of tris(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminium(III) (Alq3) has been prepared by pulse radiolysis/energy transfer from appropriate donors in benzene solutions and has an absorption maximum around 510 nm with a lifetime of about 50 μs. It is quenched by molecular oxygen, leading to singlet oxygen formation. From flash photolysis and singlet oxygen formation measurements, a quantum yield of triplet ...
