Airborne pollen of grasses (Poaceae family) is the main aeroallergen in many european countries, namely in Portugal. Grasses includes many herbaceous species with an anemophyllous pollination.
Currently allergen exposure is estimated from pollen counts in air samples. However, there is not yet enough evidence to establish this technique as a reliable indicator of allergen exposure.
