Effect of hyperoxia on the intestinal IgA secretory component in neonatal rats ...

Li,J.J.

Oxygen therapy is essential for the treatment of some neonatal critical care conditions but its extrapulmonary effects have not been adequately investigated. We therefore studied the effects of various oxygen concentrations on intestinal epithelial cell function. In order to assess the effects of hyperoxia on the intestinal immunological barrier, we studied two physiological changes in neonatal rats exposed to ...

Polymerization of lignosulfonates by the laccase-HBT (1-hydroxybenzotriazole) s...

Prasetyo, E. N.; Kudanga, T.; Østergaard, L.; Rencoret, J.; Gutiérrez, A.; Río, J. C. del; Santos, J. I.; Nieto, L.; Jiménez-Barbero, Jesús

The ability of laccases from Trametes villosa (TvL), Myceliophthora thermophila (MtL), Trametes hirsuta (ThL) and Bacillus subtilis (BsL) to improve the dispersion properties of calcium lignosulfonates 398 in the presence of HBT as a mediator was investigated. Size exclusion chromatography showed an extensive increase in molecular weight of the samples incubated with TvL and ThL by 107% and 572% from 28400 Da a...

Stem cell factor protects against neuronal apoptosis by activating AKT/ERK in d...

Li,J.-W.; Li,L.-L.; Chang,L.-L.; Wang,Z.-Y.; Xu,Y.

Neuronal apoptosis occurs in the diabetic brain due to insulin deficiency or insulin resistance, both of which reduce the expression of stem cell factor (SCF). We investigated the possible involvement of the activation of the MAPK/ERK and/or AKT pathways in neuroprotection by SCF in diabetes. Male C57/B6 mice (20-25 g) were randomly divided into four groups of 10 animals each. The morphology of the diabetic bra...

First-principles study of the ferromagnetic and semiconductor properties of [Mn...

Li,J.W.; Gao,G.Y.; Jia,F.

Based on density functional theory, the full potential linearized augmented plane wave (FPLAPW) method is applied to study the electronic structure and the magnetic properties of the compound [Mn(4,4<FONT FACE=Symbol>'</FONT>-bipy)(N3)2]n. The density of states, the spin magnetic moment and the electronic band structure are calculated. The results indicate that the compound has ferromagnetic and semiconductor p...

The proton momentum distribution in water and ice

Reiter,G.; Li,J. C.; Mayers,J.; Abdul-Redah,T.; Platzman,P.

Deep Inelastic Neutron Scattering (Neutron Compton Scattering), is used to measure the momentum distribution of the protons in water from temperatures slightly below freezing to the supercritical phase. The momentum distribution is determined almost entirely by quantum localization effects, and hence is a sensitive probe of the local environment of the proton. The distribution shows dramatic changes as the hydr...

Hadron energy reconstruction for the ATLAS calorimetry in the framework of the ...

Akhmadaliev, S.; Amaral, P.; Ambrosini, G.; Amorim, A.; Anderson, K.; Andrieux, M. L.; Aubert, B.; Augé, E.; Badaud, F.; Baisin, L.; Barreiro, F.

This paper discusses hadron energy reconstruction for the ATLAS barrel prototype combined calorimeter (consisting of a lead-liquid argon electromagnetic part and an iron-scintillator hadronic part) in the framework of the non-parametrical method. The non-parametrical method utilizes only the known e/h ratios and the electron calibration constants and does not require the determination of any parameters by a min...

Results from a new combined test of an electromagnetic liquid argon calorimeter...

Akhmadaliev, S.; Albiol, F.; Amaral, P.; Ambrosini, G.; Amorim, A.; Anderson, K.; Andrieux, M. L.; Aubert, B.; Augé, E.; Badaud, F.; Baisin, L.

A new combined test of an electromagnetic liquid argon accordion calorimeter and a hadronic scintillating-tile calorimeter was carried out at the CERN SPS. These devices are prototypes of the barrel calorimeter of the future ATLAS experiment at the LHC. The energy resolution of pions in the energy range from 10 to 300 GeV at an incident angle [theta] of about 12° is well described by the expression , where E is...

Hadronic shower development in Iron-Scintillator Tile Calorimetry

Amaral, P.; Amorim, A.; Anderson, K.; Barreira, G.; Benetta, R.; Berglund, S.; Biscarat, C.; Blanchot, G.; Blucher, E.; Bogush, A.; Bohm, C.; Boldea, V.

The lateral and longitudinal profiles of hadronic showers detected by a prototype of the ATLAS Iron-Scintillator Tile Hadron Calorimeter have been investigated. This calorimeter presents a unique longitudinal configuration of scintillator tiles. Using a fine-grained pion beam scan at 100 GeV, a detailed picture of transverse shower behaviour is obtained. The underlying radial energy densities for the four depth...

Evaluation of Fermi read-out of the Atlas Tilecal prototype

Ajaltouni, Z.; Albiol, F.; Alifanov, A.; Amaral, P.; Amelin, D.; Amorim, A.; Anderson, K.; Angelini, C.; Agnvall, S.; Antola, A.; Astesan, F.

Prototypes of the FERMI system have been used to read out a prototype of the ATLAS hadron calorimeter in a beam test at the CERN SPS. The FERMI read-out system, using a compressor and a sampling ADC, is compared to a standard charge integrating read-out by measuring the energy resolution of the calorimeter separately with the two systems on the same events. ; http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/B6TJ...
