The author begins with a discussion of some questions arising from Prof. Gomes da Torre's opening address at the beginning of the 1988/89 academic year, and goes on to describe the developments in «Inglês» being promoted by the «Leitores» in order to improve radically the teaching of English in the Faculty of Letters.
