Temperature, salinity and the availability of dissolved inorganic nutrients are amongst the most important abiotic factors driving macroalgae produstions in estuarine and coastal ecosystems.
Aquaculture effluents are rich in organic and inorganic nitrogen compounds that may support and enhance local primary productivity, eventualy inducing eutrophication conditions that may lead to the development of harmful algae blooms.
