The presence of the genus Rupicapra in Portugal is shown for the first time, on some dental and skeletal remains from the upper Pleistocene (Solutrean) of Salemas cave. The fossil material may be ascribed to R. rupicapra pyrenaica.
New radiocarbon measurements were obtained from middle and upper Paleolithic sites currently under research by the CEPUNL, in well defined stratigraphical situations. With other dates, they yield an approximative chronological global view. Measurement distribution in function of time does not seem to be an hazardous one. In the actual status of our knowledge, this distribution seems to fit in some assemblages: ...
The functions of hypergeometric type are the solutions y = y_(z) of the differential equation _(z)y′′+_ (z)y′+_y = 0, where _ and _ are polynomials of degrees not higher than 2 and 1, respectively, and _ is a constant. Here we consider a class of functions of hypergeometric type: those that satisfy the condition […] 0, where _ is an arbitrary complex (fixed) number. We also assume that the coefficients of the p...
We define q-analogues of Fourier-Bessel series, by means of complete q- orthogonal systems constructed with the third Jackson q-Bessel function. Sufficient conditions for pointwise convergence of these series are obtained, in terms of a general convergence principle valid for other Fourier series on grids defined over numerable sets. The results are illustrated with specific examples of developments in q-Fourie...
Eighty micrograms red blood cell (RBC) ghosts from patients who had previously exhibited the cutaneous form of loxoscelism (presenting localized dermonecrosis) and the viscerocutaneous form of loxoscelism (presenting dermonecrosis, hemoglobinuria, hematuria, and jaundice) and from controls were incubated with 2.5 µg crude Loxosceles gaucho venom in 5 mM phosphate buffer, pH 7.4, at 37ºC. Among all membrane prot...
We derive analytic bounds on the roots of the third Jackson Function. This bounds prove a conjecture of M. E. H. Ismail concerning the asymptotic behaviour of the roots.
Quartz (and silex) lithic artifacts collected at Galapos (Creiro), in the southern part of lhe Serra da Arrábida, Portugal, are described. These artifacts are characteristic of the Middle Paleolithic (Mousterian). This new locality reinforces lhe evidences for an important human occupation of this region at those times, as previously shown by the study of the Figueira Brava cave.
In this paper, a synopsis on the already known data, and the study of further specimens either new (*) or hither to undescribed are presented. The specimens dealt with have been collected at the Condeixa travertines; in the Tagus terraces near Carregado(*) and at Foz do Enxarrique(*); in the mousterian, about 31000 BP infilling from the Figueira Brava cave(*); and at Algar de Joao Ramos(*). Some specimens are a...
A fragment of the lower jaw of cuon (Cuon alpinus europaeus BOURGUIGNAT, 1868) found at gruta do Escoural is studied. It is the first occurrence recorded for the Pleistocene of Portugal.
