O consu...

Genetic linkage maps of chicken chromosomes 6, 7, 8, 11 and 13 from a Brazilian...

A linkage map is essential not only for quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping, but also for the organization and location of genes along the chromosomes. The present study is part of a project whose major objective is, besides from construction the linkage maps, the whole genome scan for mapping QTL for performance traits in the Brazilian experimental chicken population. Linkage maps of chicken chromosomes 6 to...

Strategic marker selection to detect quantitative trait loci in chicken

Ruy,Deborah Clea; Nones,Kátia; Baron,Erica Elias; Ledur,Mônica Corrêa; Melo,Cláudio Manoel Rodrigues de; Ambo,Marcel; Campos,Raquel de Lello Rocha

Selective genotyping for a certain trait in individuals with extreme phenotypes contributes sufficient information to determine linkage between molecular markers and quantitative trait loci (QTL). In this experiment an F2 population, developed by crossing males from a broiler line with females from a layer line, was employed to detect QTL on chromosomes 3 and 5. Twenty-eight performance and carcass traits were ...

Reduction of indigo backstaining by post-washing

Andreaus, Juergen; Campos, Raquel de; Paulo, Artur Cavaco

The undesired redeposition of indigo during the enzymatic ageing of denim garments with cellulases is a problem widely known in industrial laundries. Today, the usual procedure carried out to reduce the undesired side-effect is post-washing, but so far little information can be found in literature about efficient methods to achieve a maximum blue-white contrast in denim garments. This article deals with the pos...

Indigo-cellulase interactions

Campos, Raquel de; Andreaus, Juergen; Gübitz, Georg M.; Paulo, Artur Cavaco

We have studied the affinity of cellulases from different fungal origins for insoluble indigo dye. Adsorption studies have shown that "acid cellulases" from Trichoderma reesei have a higher affinity for indigo dye than "neutral cellulases" of Humicola insolens. The particle size of indigo dye agglomerates is influenced by cellulase origin and concentra tion. Evidence shows that the nonpolar residues present in ...

Influence of cellulases on indigo backstaining

Andreaus, Juergen; Campos, Raquel de; Gübitz, Georg M.; Paulo, Artur Cavaco

We have found that increasing concentrations of fungal cellulases on a fabric decrease indigo staining levels. Deletion of the cellulose binding domains (CBD) from either bacterial or fungal cellulases decreases indigo staining levels and generally causes less backstaining than the entire enzyme. Increasing the concentration of cellulases with a CBD of family I on fabric decreases indigo staining, whereas incre...
