Mestrado em Contabilidade, Fiscalidade e Finanças Empresariais Nos dias que correm, o termo sustentabilidade tornou-se cada vez mais usual e importante, ambicionando conservar aspectos ambientais, económicos, culturais e sociais, na promoção do seu equilíbrio. O turismo sustentável é cada vez mais relevante devido à aceleração da degradação ambiental e ao seu impacto e capacidade de prejudicar o progresso económico nos países em desenvolvimento. Como tal, nesta tese abordam-se os aspectos relevantes da sustentabilidade no turismo a nível mundial e posteriormente especifica-se o caso das Ilhas do Triângulo açorianas, Pico, Faial e São Jorge, como ecossistemas únicos no desenvolvimento do turismo. A experiência oferecida no destino turístico deve ser memorável, satisfazendo os visitantes e contribuindo para a repetição e recomendação do destino. Desta forma, pretende-se apresentar a sustentabilidade como um factor imprescindível no desenvolvimento passado, actual e futuro da humanidade, verificando-se se os aspectos teóricos expostos já se encontram patentes e em utilização pela sociedade actual. Para tal, teve-se em conta o presente, os factores negativos e positivos, as motivações para uma imediata implementação do conceito, soluções e as limitações evidenciadas. Deste modo, conclui-se que os investidores das ilhas devem considerar e melhorar os atributos mais criticados, como a gastronomia e a restauração, os transportes e a falta de oferta de actividades lúdicas e guias turísticos. Devem também continuar a valorizar a singularidade do turismo de natureza, sustentável e rural para engrandecer o desenvolvimento económico. O presente trabalho fundamentou-se em diversas fontes de informação, integrando técnicas de entrevistas, de análise documental e questionários. Esta complementaridade metodológica possibilitou à pesquisa uma maior riqueza e amplitude de informação. Nowadays, the term sustainability has become increasingly common and important, aiming to save the environmental, economic, cultural and social aspects, whilst promoting its balance. Sustainable tourism is increasingly important due to the acceleration of environmental degradation and its impact and ability to undermine economic progress in developing countries. As such, this thesis delves into the important aspects of sustainability in tourism worldwide, and then specifies the case of the Azorean Islands of the Triangle, Pico, Faial and São Jorge as unique ecosystems in the development of tourism. The experience offered at the destination should be memorable, satisfyingvisitors and contributing to the repetition and recommendation of the destination. Thus, we intend to present sustainability as an essential factor in the past, present and
future development of mankind, making sure that the exposed theory is patented and
already in use in the current society. To this end, the present was taken into account, the
positive and negative factors, the reasons for an immediate implementation of the
concept, solutions and limitations highlighted. We can therefore conclude that
the islands' investors should consider and improve the attributes most highly criticized, such as gastronomy and catering, transport and shortage of recreational activities and tour guides. They should also continue to value the uniqueness of nature tourism, sustainable and rural in order to increase the economic development. This project was based on several sources of information, incorporating techniques, such as interviews, document analysis and questionnaires. This complementary research methodology has enabled a greater range of information and wealth.
