A Work Project, presented as part of the requirements for the Award of a Masters Degree in Economics from the NOVA – School of Business and Economics This paper reviews how adjustment costs and rigid labor legislation affect input factor adjustment throughout the business cycle. Estimates of adjustment speed of different types of labor are provided and their causes and consequences discussed.
