O presente trabalho propõe-se a analisar o Estado Novo e a imagem da mulher no cinema português durante este regime, atendendo sobretudo à ideologia e valores predominantes no plano social, nesta época. O trabalho é desenvolvido, conjugando uma análise bibliográfica sobre o contexto social, político e cultural e uma análise empírica em dois filmes produzidos neste período. Desta análise ressalta a importância da evolução observada nos estilos cinematográficos no que respeita a imagem da mulher, ao ser verificado no primeiro filme em análise, uma função em termos de veiculação dos ideais do regime, sendo feita de forma subtil ao utilizar o entretenimento. No segundo filme, saliente-se a prioridade em termos de enfoque cinematográfico, ao incidir a sua atenção em problemáticas associadas à condição feminina de uma forma real e direta, sem o habitual fim feliz que tanto marcou as comédias dos anos trinta e quarenta. The aim of the present work is to analyze the female image presented in the Portuguese cinema during the “Estado Novo” (literally the “new state”, which was the name of the political regime implemented by Salazar in 1933 and eventually overthrown in 1974), particularly in the context of the most important ideals and values of that time. This dissertation essentially gathers together a bibliographical analysis of the social, political and cultural context of the “Estado Novo” and an empirical analysis of two movies from this period. This analysis clearly highlights the significance of the evolution observed in the styles present in the cinema concerning the female image. In the first movie, this can be seen in the possibility of introducing the ideals of the political regime in a subtle way by using entertainment. In the second movie, on the other hand, the main focus is on the difficulties regarding the female condition, which are underlined in a real and direct way, without the usual happy ending that became so frequent in the thirties and the forties.
