Tendo em conta o crescente número de individuos que se propõem a
realizar actividades de voluntariado, têm sido desenvolvidos estudos no
sentido de perceber quem são estas pessoas, quais as suas características e
o que as motiva.
Estudos sobre voluntários portugueses são muito escassos. Assim,
este estudo tem por objectivo a caracterização de uma amostra de voluntários
oncológicos portugueses relativamente a características sócio-demográficas,
características específicas do voluntariado hospitalar, funções motivacionais
para o voluntariado, bem-estar psicológico, qualidade de vida e a análise da
relação entre estas variáveis.
A amostra é constituída por 53 voluntários hospitalares da Liga
Portuguesa Contra o Cancro – Núcleo Regional do Centro, a realizar
voluntariado no Instituto Português de Oncologia de Coimbra, tendo sido
recolhida durante Março de 2011. A bateria de instrumentos de avaliação
psicológica foi constituida pelas seguintes medidas: questionário sóciodemográfico
e de caracterização do voluntariado, Inventário de Motivações
para o Voluntariado (IMV; Gonçalves, Monteiro, & Pereira, 2011), Escala de
Medida de Manifestação de Bem-Estar Psicológico (Monteiro, Tavares, &
Pereira, 2006) e WHOQOL-BREF (Vaz Serra et al., 2006).
Os resultados permitem-nos traçar um perfil geral do voluntário, em
congruência com as características dos estudos internacionas mais recentes,
salientando-se que a função motivacional valores é a que mais motiva os
voluntários e a função carreira a que menos motiva. Adicionalmente,importa
referir que os voluntários da nossa amostra parecem demonstrar uma boa
adaptação psicológica, com valores de bem estar-psicológico e de qualidade
de vida superiores aos valores das amostras de validação dos instrumentos
originais. Taking into account the increase the number of people who proposes
to carry out voluntary activities, very scientific studies have been development
in order to understand who are these people, what are their features and what
motivates them.
There are few studies about the portuguese volunteers, so, this study
has the objective to know a sample of cancer portuguese volunteers.
Characterize the sample on a socio-demographic way, but also with the
specific characteristics of a hospital volunteer and analyze the relationship for
the psychological well-being and quality of life.
This sample is composed for volunteers from hospital of the
Portuguese League Against Cancer – Núcleo Regional do Centro, to perform
volunteer work in a Portuguese Institute of Oncology of Coimbra, collected in
March of 2011 and is composed for 53 volunteers. The battery of psychological
assessment instruments was composed for one socio-demographic
questionnaire and about characterization of volunteering, the Inventory
Motivations for Volunteering (Clary et al., 1998), Measurement Scale
Demonstration of a Psychological Well-Being (Monteiro, Tavares, & Pereira,
2006) and the WHOQOL-BREF (Canavarro et al., 2006).
The results aims to draw a general profile about the volunteer, just like
the characteristcs of recent international studies, these point to the function
values of the IMV is which more motivates volunteers and the career function
less. Additionally, we can’t help mentioning that volunteers of our sample seem
to prove a good psychological adaptation, with psychological well-being and the
quality of life values, higher than the values of the samples of originals
