Este estudo aborda questões relacionadas com o tema “Liberdade Física
versus Liberdade Virtual”, tendo o foco na utilização da Internet por parte dos
reclusos na rede de Estabelecimentos Prisionais Portugueses. O principal
objectivo é perceber se o acesso à Internet por parte dos reclusos nos
Estabelecimentos Prisionais Portugueses poderá ser uma realidade e, se sim,
que implicações essa utilização teria na vida dos reclusos.
Como sustentação teórica abordaram-se temas como o conceito de “prisão”,
os modelos prisionais, a reclusão enquanto método de punição/correcção, o
Sistema Prisional Português, a Internet e os limites da sua segurança, e a
actual sociedade portuguesa na sua vertente tecnológica.
O trabalho prático debruçou-se sobre três agentes principais: a População
Reclusa, as Entidades Oficiais (na figura dos técnicos, professores e
formadores), e a rede social de apoio dos reclusos participantes. Através da
aplicação de Inquéritos por Questionário e Inquéritos por Entrevista
recolheram-se os dados fundamentais à análise e obtenção de resultados.
A utilização da Internet pode ser uma mais-valia na reabilitação e reinserção
social pós-reclusão, quer por proporcionar a comunicação com a rede social de
apoio do recluso e permitir-lhe maior estabilidade emocional quer por contribuir
para a preparação do indivíduo com as habilitações e capacidades
necessárias a um retorno pleno a uma vida profissional activa e bem sucedida. This study approaches a thematic related with the subject “Physical Freedom
versus Virtual Freedom” having its focus in the use of the Internet by inmates in
the Portuguese Penal System. The main purpose of this investigation is to
understand if access to the Internet by Portuguese inmates can be a reality
and, if yes, what implications that usage would have in inmates lives.
The theoretical support is based on themes such as the prison concept, prison
models, incarceration as a means of punishment or correction, Portuguese
Penal System, Internet and its security limitations, and Portuguese society
specially in its recently acquired technological nature.
There where three main participants in this study: Portuguese inmates, official
entities (teachers, social workers, directors), and the social support network of
the participants inmates. The data collection methods used were inquiries and
interviews.
Usage of Internet can be very helpful when related to rehabilitation and social
re-entry, either for allowing the inmate to connect in a regular fashion with the
respective social network and thus contributing for his emotional stability, and
for preparing the inmate with the skills and abilities to build a new and
