O presente trabalho envolveu a concepção e elaboração de um projecto de
divulgação científica intitulado: “Aprender Geologia de Portugal com as rochas
do Campus da Universidade”. Envolve um itinerário a pé através dos diferentes
edifícios e espaços abertos da Universidade, com nove paragens em pontos
previamente seleccionados. Nestas paragens, os participantes poderão
observar os vários tipos de rochas usados na construção e decoração do
Campus. Durante a visita, discutir-se-á a geologia, a petrografia e o conteúdo
fossilífero das rochas ornamentais e será fornecida alguma informação sobre a
sua proveniência e enquadramento geotectónico.
O principal objectivo deste projecto é aumentar o interesse do público, em
geral, e dos jovens estudantes, em particular, no estudo da Geologia e mostrar
a relevância dos sistemas geológicos na vida quotidiana. Deste modo, esperase
que a sua implementação contribua para despertar a curiosidade acerca do
mundo natural e motivar para a aprendizagem científica, num ambiente de
educação não formal, que complemente a abordagem formal de sala de aula.
O desenvolvimento deste projecto incluiu várias etapas. A primeira centrou-se
na definição do tema, objectivos, público-alvo e itinerário da visita. Envolveu
ainda o levantamento geológico e fotográfico das rochas ornamentais do
Campus, a selecção das melhores paragens e a colheita de amostras. Seguiuse
uma fase de recolha bibliográfica, de caracterização macro e microscópica
das rochas amostradas e de trabalho de campo (visitas a pedreiras e
afloramentos). Na última fase, elaboraram-se os textos, prepararam-se os
materiais ilustrativos (figuras, esquemas, mapas, fotografias) e criou-se o guião
final da saída.
A dissertação está organizada em três grandes capítulos. No primeiro capítulo,
são apresentados os objectivos do trabalho, o seu enquadramento didáctico e
a metodologia seguida. No capítulo II, é feita uma síntese bibliográfica dos
principais aspectos da Geologia de Portugal. O Capítulo III inclui o guião final
da visita, com a descrição pormenorizada das diferentes paragens que a
integram.
ABSTRACT: The present work involved the conceptual development, planning and design of
a science outreach project entitled “Learning Geology of Portugal with the rocks
from the Campus of the University”. It consists of a walking itinerary through
several buildings and open spaces of the University, with nine selected stops.
In these stops, the participants can observe the different rock types used in the
construction and decoration of the Campus. On the walk, the geology,
petrography and fossil content of the building stones will be discussed and
some information on the quarry provenance and geotectonic setting will be
provided.
The main objective of this project is to increase the interest of the public, in
general, and young students, in particular, in the study of Geology and to show
the relevance of geological and earth systems science to everyday life. As
such, it is expected that the geologic tour around the Campus contributes to
enhance the curiosity for natural sciences and to motivate for scientific learning,
in a non-formal educational setting, that complements the formal approach
given inside the classroom.
The project was developed in three main stages. The first stage was focused in
the definition of the topic, objectives, target audiences and itinerary of the tour.
It also included a geologic survey through the Campus, the selection of the best
stops, sampling and photography collection. The second stage was devoted to
bibliographic research, macroscopic and microscopic characterization of the
ornamental rocks and field work (visits to quarries and outcrops). The last stage
involved the preparation of easily readable texts and illustrative materials
(figures, maps, schemes, photographs) as well as the elaboration of the final
guide for the visit.
The thesis is organized in three chapters. The main objectives of the work and
the adopted methodology are presented in the first chapter. Chapter II provides
a literature review of the main aspects of the Geology of Portugal. Finally,
Chapter III includes the guide of the geologic tour with a detailed description of
