A presente dissertação tem como objetivo avaliar o apoio dos residentes ao
desenvolvimento do turismo nos destinos rurais em estudo e identificar os
fatores que poderão influenciar esse apoio, dando especial atenção à
perceção dos residentes dos impactes do turismo, ao nível de interação entre
residentes e visitantes, às emoções sentidas pelos residentes quando
interagem com os visitantes e à ligação dos residentes aos destinos rurais.
Para que o objetivo enunciado fosse atingido, foi realizada uma revisão
bibliográfica, sobre o desenvolvimento sustentável, turismo sustentável,
destinos turísticos rurais, turismo como atividade dinamizadora de destinos
rurais, a relevância do envolvimento das comunidades no processo de
desenvolvimento do turismo em destinos rurais, modelos de avaliação da
atitude dos residentes face ao desenvolvimento da atividade turística e fatores
que influenciam as atitudes dos residentes face ao desenvolvimento da
atividade turística (a perceção dos impactes provocados pelo turismo, tipo e
frequência de interação entre residentes e visitantes, emoções associadas a
essa interação, ligação dos residentes à comunidade e caraterísticas
sociodemográficas). Com base na revisão bibliográfica definiu-se o modelo de
investigação a aplicar a destinos rurais localizados na Região Centro de
Portugal e a metodologia a adotar para aplicar esse modelo. A recolha de
dados foi realizada recorrendo a um inquérito por questionário administrado a
uma amostra de 102 residentes das aldeias de Benfeita, Pardieiros, Luadas,
Enxudro, Aigra Nova, Pena, Fajão, Chã de Alvares e Piódão.
Os resultados obtidos nesta investigação revelam que a perceção de impactes
socioculturais negativos influencia de uma forma negativa o apoio dos
residentes ao desenvolvimento do turismo. Por outro lado, a sua satisfação
com a aldeia, influencia de forma positiva o apoio dos residentes ao
desenvolvimento do turismo, assim como, a interacção com os visitantes com
o objetivo de desenvolver amizades. O desenvolvimento turístico nestas
aldeias encontra-se numa fase inicial e os residentes apoiam o
desenvolvimento turístico. Neste sentido, as autoridades locais devem
envolver todos os residentes para que o turismo se desenvolva de uma forma
sustentável. This dissertation aims to assess the residents’ support towards tourism
development in rural destinations and identify the factors that may influence
that support, with special attention to residents’ perception of the tourism
impacts, the level of interaction between residents and visitors, the emotions
experienced by residents when interacting with visitors and residents’
attachment to rural destinations.
In order to accomplish the objectives of this dissertation a literature review on
sustainable development, sustainable tourism, rural tourism destinations, the
relevance of tourism for rural destinations, the importance of community
involvement in the development of rural tourism destinations, assessment
models of the attitudes of residents towards the development of the tourism
activity and factors that influence these attitudes (the residents’ perceptions of
the tourism impacts, type and frequency of interaction between residents and
visitors, emotions associated to this interaction and socio-demographic
characteristics) was conducted. Based on the literature review a research
model was developed to identify the factors that influence the support of
residents towards tourism development. Further this model was applied to rural
destination located in the Central Region of Portugal. Data collection was
conducted using a questionnaire administered to a sample of 102 residents of
the villages of Benfeita, Pardieiros, Luadas, Enxudro, Aigra Nova, Pena, Fajão,
Chã de Alvares and Piódão.
The results of this research show that the residents’ perceptions of the negative
sociocultural impacts have a negative impact on residents support towards to
tourism development. Moreover, the satisfaction of residents with the village
and the level of interaction with visitors aiming at developing friendships have
positive impact in the level of residents’ support towards tourism development
in the rural tourism destinations analyzed in this research. Additionally, the
results obtained in this dissertation also show that the tourism in this villages
analyzed is in the initial stage of the development process and the residents
support the development of this activity.
Consequently the responsible for the tourism development process of these
destinations should involve all residents in order to achieve a sustainable
