Linearidades : limites, continuidades e transições no Vale do Ave

Dissertação de mestrado integrado em Arquitectura O presente exercício surge como uma reflexão sobre os espaços lineares do Vale do Ave; propomos interpretar a paisagem dispersa, de modo a criar uma “visão” do seu sistema urbano. Desenvolvendo-se em três fases, este exercício iniciou com uma aproximação ao território real, percorrendo-o e registando os seus espaços, por forma a permitir compreender esta realidade tão complexa; recorreu-se depois ao desenho como ferramenta de análise e interpretação, por forma a descodificar e compreender esta realidade urbana complexa. Posteriormente, seleccionando e registando os contornos desta realidade, criamos um “olhar” específico, uma interpretação da paisagem do Ave, que nos permitiu construir uma representação própria da paisagem difusa. Essa interpretação foi efectuada sobre um tramo da E.N. 310, situado no Vale do Selho, entre Guimarães e Pevidém, permitindo-nos identificar uma linearidade urbana repleta de espaços indefinidos, incaracterísticos e deficitários de espaço público. Descobrimos assim, um espaço viário, que actua como infra-estrutura de ligação entre os grandes polos urbanos, porém é também suporte de uma estrutura urbana dispersa. Numa terceira fase, preparamos uma intervenção na linearidade, reconhecendo as características específicas destes lugares, assumindo-se as particularidades inerentes a um espaço deste género; assim, reconhecemos que além da utilização viária, estes lugares compreendem grande parte do espaço público do Vale do Ave. Procura-se com este processo ser capaz de reconhecer os elementos que compõem e dão forma á linearidade e neles conseguir ver oportunidades de intervenção; é por isso necessário reconhecer os limites, continuidades e transições que a estruturam, de modo a “ver” possibilidades de intervenção. Este é, portanto, um processo metodológico para a interpretação de um território difuso, que se alicerça nas especificidades de cada lugar, de modo a criar uma nova identidade assente nas suas Linearidades. The present essay stands as a reflection upon the linear spaces of Vale do Ave; here we propose to interpret this dispersed landscape, in order to create our own "vision" of this urban system. Developed in three stages, this essay has begun with an approximation to the real territory, by rambling and registering its spaces, in order to enable us to understand this complex reality; then we’ve resorted to the drawing as a tool for analysis and interpretation, so that we can decode and understand this complex urban reality. Subsequently, we’ve selected and recorded the contours of this reality, so we can create a specific "view", an interpretation of Vale do Ave landscape, which allowed us to shape our own representation of this diffuse landscape. This interpretation was held on a section of the E.N. 310, located in Vale do Selho, between Guimarães and Pevidém, allowing us to identify an urban linearity, filled with undefined, uncharacteristic areas and in deficit of public space. We’ve discovered a road space, that acts as an infrastructure, linking the major urban centers, but that is also the support of this dispersed urban structure. In a third phase, we’ve prepared an intervention in the linearity, recognizing its specific characteristics, assuming the particularities inherent to a space like this; so, we recognized that apart from the use of the road by the traffic, these linear places contains a considerable part of the Vale do Ave public spaces. Consequently, we sought with this process, to be able to recognize the elements that compose and shape the linearity, and with them, see opportunities for a future intervention; it is, for that reason, necessary to recognize its limits, continuities and transitions, that is, the elements that structure them, in order to "see" possibilities of intervention. Therefore, this is a methodological process for the interpretation of a diffuse territory, which is based on the specificities of each place, in order to create a new identity based on its Linearities.
