Tese de doutoramento em Geografia (ramos de conhecimento em Geografia Humana) O estudo das migrações é dos fenómenos demográficos mais complexos e ao mesmo tempo dos mais aliciantes de se analisar (Tapinos;1991). O fenómeno dos fluxos migratórios mantém-se, evolui e transforma-se permanentemente, trazendo por isso novos temas para debate, novos desafios e novas experiências. Num leque alargado de opções, o núcleo central desta investigação recai na análise de processos de integração nos mercados de trabalho de trabalhadores estrangeiros. O estudo dos processos de integração não é uma tarefa fácil, envolve variáveis múltiplas em contextos diferenciados, que muitas vezes resultam em situações únicas. Neste trabalho vamos analisar em primeiro lugar as condicionantes - a uma escala macro – que podem influenciar o processo de integração e neste campo inserem-se por exemplo, as características da sociedade de acolhimento ou o quadro legislativo que os diferentes países e/ou regiões definem. Passamos depois a uma análise desenvolvida à escala meso que envolve a participação das diferentes instituições, da sociedade local e dos mercados de trabalho na promoção (ou não) da integração de novos grupos populacionais. E por fim numa escala micro vamos estudar as estratégias e opções dos indivíduos e das suas redes sociais enquanto participantes neste processo de integração e a sua relação com a sociedade de acolhimento e de origem. O objectivo primordial pode sintetizar-se no propósito de perceber se em contextos diferentes, com actores e mercados de trabalho distintos, poderemos elencar uma série de factores comuns, que se repetem independentemente dos contextos, Pretendemos igualmente analisar e avaliar as trajectórias laborais e de integração desenvolvidas pelos imigrantes e pelas autoridades com o objectivo de tirar ilações sobre boas práticas que se poderão adoptar com vista a que no futuro, processos de integração nas suas mais variadas vertentes possam ocorrer com maiores benefícios para todos, Para a prossecução do objectivo do trabalho a análise tem como ponto de referência o posicionamento de Portugal no contexto migratório internacional, aproveitando esta dupla faceta de conjugar fluxos migratórios de saída, quase permanentes (embora com intensidades e destinos distintos) acompanhados por fluxos de entrada assinaláveis, em particular no final do século XX inicio do século XXI. O trabalho focaliza a análise no entendimento e explicação do processo de integração no mercado de trabalho de trabalhadores estrangeiros provenientes da Europa de Leste que escolheram Portugal, mais propriamente o Grande Porto, para se instalarem, contrapondo a experiência dos trabalhadores portugueses que se instalaram na Suíça, mais precisamente em Genebra. The study of migrations it is one of the most complex demographic phenomenon and at the same time one of the most interesting to analyse (Tapinos; 1991). The migratory flow remains, develop and change permanently, always bringing new subjects for the debate, new challenges and new experiences. Into a widened fan of options the core of this study falls into the analysis of the process of integration of foreign workers. The study of the integration processes it is not an easy task, involves multiple variables in differentiated contexts, which many times results in singular situations. In this work we go to analyze in first place the subjects – in a “macro” scale - that can influence the integration process and in this field we can assume for example the characteristics of the shelter society or the plans/laws of integration that the different countries and regions define. In a second phase we pass to an analysis developed to the “meso” scale that involves the participation of the different institutions, the local power and the local society in the promotion (or not) of the integration of new population groups. Finally in a micro scale we study the strategies and options that the individuals and its social nets developed as well the results achieved. The primary objective can be summarized in order to understand if in different contexts, with different actors and labor markets, we can list a number of common factors that are repeated, regardless of context, we also intend to examine and evaluate the job transitions and integration developed by immigrants and the authorities with the aim of drawing conclusions about best practices that could be taken in order to better promote futures integrations. For the pursuing the aim of the work we decide to elaborate the analysis that has the control point in the positioning of Portugal in international migratory context, using the fact that this country conjugate outgoing migratory flows, almost permanent (even so with distinct intensities and destinations) followed by entrance flows that increased in the end of XX century and beginning of XXI century. The work focuses the analysis in the agreement and explanation of the process of integration of foreign workers proceeding from the East Europe who had chosen Portugal, more properly the Great OPorto to be installed opposing the experience of the Portuguese workers whom had installed in Switzerland, more properly in Geneva.
