Influência da maturidade da função sistema de informação na abordagem à engenha...

A engenharia de requisitos é, talvez, a actividade mais crítica do processo de desenvolvimento de sistemas de informação, porque é ai que se define o suporte que os sistemas de informação deverão dar ao trabalho realizado nas organizações. A definição incorrecta dos requisitos levará à obtenção de sistemas de informação não adequados às necessidades organizacionais. Diversos autores têm vindo a referir que a fase engenharia de requisitos tem vindo a ser realizada nas empresas com uma abordagem de pendor tecnológico excessivo. Tal abordagem é apontada como sendo a principal causa do insucesso dos sistemas de informação. Eles referem a necessidade de aumentar a atenção prestada a factores sociais e organizacionais para que o sucesso dos sistemas de informação possa aumentar. Por sua vez, os modelos de maturidade para a função sistema de informação sugerem que as organizações para aumentar a sua maturidade têm de dar mais atenção aos factores sociais e organizacionais além dos tecnológicos normalmente considerados no desenvolvimento e gestão de sistemas de informação. Estas ilações levaram a explorar nesta tese a possibilidade de medir o pendor da abordagem seguida na condução da engenharia de requisitos e a estudar a influência da maturidade da função sistema de informação nessa abordagem. O estudo foi suportado por um modelo de investigação que contempla três variáveis principais: 1) maturidade da gestão de sistemas de informação; 2) maturidade do processo de desenvolvimento de software; e 3) abordagem à engenharia de requisitos. Usando este modelo levantaram-se duas hipóteses: h1 - a maturidade da gestão de sistemas de informação tem influência na abordagem seguida na condução da engenharia de requisitos; e h2 - a maturidade do processo de desenvolvimento de software tem influência na abordagem seguida na condução da engenharia de requisitos. A primeira variável foi medida usando o questionário de Galliers (1995) subjacente ao “stages of growth model revisited” de Galliers e Sutherland (1991). Para medir a segunda variável usou-se o questionário de Zubrow et al. (1994) subjacente ao SW-CMM 1.1 (“Capability Maturity Model for Software”) de Paulk et al. (1993). Um instrumento novo foi desenvolvido para medir a abordagem à engenharia de requisitos visto que não se encontrou nenhum na literatura capaz de o fazer. Tendo em consideração as características dos instrumentos usados na medição de cada uma das variáveis a realização de um “survey” mostrou-se impraticável tendo-se então optado pela realização de uma série de “estudos de casos”. Os resultados do estudo vieram a confirmar a pertinência do modelo de investigação e a reforçar a confiança nas hipóteses levantadas. The requirements engineering is, perhaps, the most critical activity of the information systems development process, because it is where the support that the information systems will have to give to the work carried out in the organizations is defined. The incorrect requirements definition will lead to the deployment of systems not adjusted to the organisational needs. Several authors suggest that the requirements engineering phase is often carried out with an excessive Technological approach. Such approach is pointed out as the cause of many information systems failures. They also point out the need to pay more attention to the social and organizational factors so that the success of the information systems can increase. In turn, the main models of maturity for the information systems function suggest that to increase their maturity organizations have to pay more attention to social and organizational besides the technological normally considered in the development and management of information systems. With this in mind, this thesis aims to explore the possibility to measure the tendency of the approach followed in the requirements engineering conduction and to stud the influence of the information system function maturity in this approach. The study was supported by a research model that contemplates three main variables: 1) management information systems maturity 2) software development process maturity, and 3) approach to the requirements engineering. Using this model two hypothesis were put forward: h1 - The management information systems maturity has impact in the approach followed in the requirements engineering conduction; and h2 - The software development process maturity has impact in the approach followed in the requirements engineering conduction.
