O presente estudo foi aplicado a professores de Educação Física do Ensino Básico (3º ciclo) e Secundário, a lecionar numa escola pública da cidade de Vila Real e visa identificar a sua opinião em relação à disciplina de Educação Física, mas precisamente, se esta contribui para o sucesso escolar. Participaram 32 professores, sendo 17 (53,1%) do sexo feminino e 15 (46,9%) do sexo masculino, com idades compreendidas entre os 20 e os 57 anos, correspondendo a uma média de 43,3 (+8,2) anos. Foi utilizado um questionário validado (α = 0,899), constituído por três partes, onde a primeira parte corresponde aos dados pessoais dos docentes, a segunda parte às perguntas do ato educativo e a terceira a uma resposta aberta. Os dados foram analisados e tratados através do programa estatístico SPSS (versão 17.0, Chicago, Illinois) para o Windows®, com uma análise descritiva e inferencial. Na estatística descritiva apresentamos os valores médios, o desvio padrão, a frequência absoluta e a frequência relativa, e na estatística inferencial, com o intuito de comparar as diferenças entre os dois sexos e entre departamentos, utilizou-se o teste t para amostras independentes. Após a análise dos resultados, verificou-se que os docentes inquiridos, de um modo geral, nas questões do ato educativo, concordam que a educação física contribui no sucesso escolar e no combate ao insucesso; no que diz respeito às opiniões entre os sexos, não existiram resultados estatisticamente significativos sendo que os resultados foram maiores que α = 0,05. Na comparação entre departamentos, já se verificaram resultados estatisticamente significativos menores que α = 0,05.
Conclui-se, então, que os professores representantes dos departamentos não estão em conformidade nas opiniões. The present study was applied to Physical Education teachers of Basic and Secondary Education, teaching on a public school at Vila Real’s city and aims to identify their opinion in what concerns to this subject, more precisely if it contributes to the success at school. 32 teachers participated, 17 of then (53,1%) are feminine and 15 (46,9%) are masculine, from 20 to 57 years old, which corresponds to an average of 43,3 (+8,2) years old. It was used a valid questionnaire (α = 0,899), constituted by three parts, where the first one corresponds to teachers’ personal information, the second to asked questions of the educating act and the third was an open question.
The data was analyzed and processed with the statistic program SPSS (version 17.0, Chicago, Illinois) for Windows®, with descriptive and inferential analysis. On descriptive statistics we present the average, standard deviation, the absolute frequency and relative frequency, and on inferential analysis, with the propose of comparing the differences between both genders and between departments, it was used the t test for independent samples. After analyzing the results, we verified that the asked teachers, in a general way, in questions related with the educating act, agreed that physical education contributes for success at school in addiction to fighting school failure; in what concerns to the opinions between genders, the results were not statistically relevant, because they were bigger than α = 0,05. But, comparing departments, the results were, already, relevant because they were smaller than α = 0,05.
