O presente estudo tem como finalidade verificar de que forma a preparação da
prestação de cuidados tem impacto na saúde mental dos cuidadores de pessoas
dependentes com doença crónica. Quanto à metodologia o estudo é transversal, sendo
também quantitativo, focado na observação da demência na saúde mental dos
cuidadores de pessoas com diagnóstico definitivo de doença neurodegenerativa. A
investigação é correlacional, pois irá mensurar o grau de relação entre as variáveis em
estudo. A amostra é constituída por 94 cuidadores de sujeitos com demência, 73
pertencentes aos cuidadores formais e 21 cuidadores informais. Os instrumentos
utilizados que constituem o protocolo de avaliação são o questionário sóciodemográfico,
a Escala de Sobrecarga do Cuidador de Zarit, a Escala de Satisfação com a
Vida, o Questionário de Avaliação do Estado de Saúde de 36 Itens e o Inventário
Depressivo de Beck.
Verificam-se efeitos significativos ao nível da relação com o doente e a
sobrecarga, ao nível da relação com o doente e a satisfação com a vida, nas correlações
entre a sobrecarga e a depressão, ao nível da depressão e a qualidade de vida, da
qualidade de vida e sobrecarga, da sobrecarga e satisfação com a vida, e da satisfação
com a vida e qualidade de vida. A investigação realizada permitiu identificar que na
generalidade a relação que o cuidador tem com o idoso demente exerce influência na
sobrecarga e satisfação com a vida dos inquiridos, e que quanto maior a sobrecarga,
menor a perceção de qualidade de vida que o cuidador tem de si. The main objective of this study is to verify how the preparation of caregiving
impacts the mental health of the caregivers of dependent people with chronic disease.
Regarding the methodology the study is a cross-sectional and also a quantitative study,
focused on the observation of dementia in the mental health of caregivers of people with
definite diagnosis of neurodegenerative disease. The research is correlational, it will
measure the degree of relationship between the variables under study. The sample
consisted of 94 caregivers of individuals with dementia, 73 belonging to formal
caregivers and 21 informal caregivers. The instruments that constitute the protocol
evaluation are the socio-demographic questionnaire, the Zarit Burden Interview, the
Satisfation with Life Scale, the 36-Item Health Survey and the Beck Depression
Inventory.
There were significant effects on the relationship with the patient and burden, on
the relationship with the patient and life satisfaction, the correlation between the burden
and depression, on the depression and quality of life, quality of life and burden, burden
and satisfaction with life, and life satisfaction and quality of life. It was found that in
general, the relationship that the caregiver has with the demented elderly influences the
burden and life satisfaction of respondents, and the higher the burden, lower the
