Os principais objetivos deste estudo foram apurar a existência (ou não) de uma relação
entre a violência entre irmãos e a autoestima, a autoeficácia, o rendimento académico e
as variáveis sociodemográficas. Para tal, recolhemos uma amostra online, de 439
participantes (Midade= 27.20; DP= 8.76; Min= 17, Máx = 69), maioritariamente do sexo
feminino (n= 338), que responderam aos seguintes instrumentos: um questionário
sociodemográfico (versão adaptada de um questionário de Fernandes & Relva, 2008), à
Escala de Autoeficácia Geral (Schwarzer & Jerusalem, 1995; versão portuguesa de
Araújo & Moura, 2011), à Escala de Autoestima de Rosenberg (Rosenberg, 1987;
versão portuguesa de Rocha & Matos, 2003) e às Escalas de Táticas de Conflito
Revistas (Straus, Hamby, Boney-McCoy, & Sugarman, 1996; versão portuguesa de
Paiva & Figueiredo, 2006; versão para o contexto fraterno de Relva & Fernandes,
2013).
Os principais resultados revelam que: A autoeficácia está correlacionada
significativamente com as seguintes subescalas da dimensão perpetração do CTS2-SP:
negociação, ρ = .09, p < .05, e agressão física sem sequelas, ρ = -.11, p < .05; e com as
seguintes subescalas da dimensão vitimização do mesmo questionário: negociação, ρ =
.10, p < .05, e agressão física com sequelas, ρ = -.15, p < .01. Já a autoestima está
correlacionada significativamente com as seguintes subescalas da dimensão
perpetração: negociação, ρ = .13, p < .01, agressão psicológica, ρ = -.13, p < .01,
agressão física sem sequelas, ρ = -.14, p < .01, coerção sexual, ρ = -.12, p < .05, e
agressão física com sequelas, ρ = -.13, p < .01; e com as seguintes subescalas da
dimensão vitimização: negociação, ρ = .14, p < .01, agressão psicológica, ρ = -.16, p <
.01, agressão física sem sequelas, ρ = -.14, p < .01, coerção sexual, ρ = -.11, p < .05, e
agressão física com sequelas, ρ = -.19, p < .01.
Relativamente ao rendimento escolar, há uma correlação significativa entre a
autoavaliação do rendimento escolar e a subescala negociação da dimensão perpetração,
ρ = .14, p < .01, e a subescala negociação da dimensão vitimização, ρ = .16, p < .01. The main objectives of this study were to establish the existence of a relationship
between sibling aggression and low self-esteem, self-efficacy, academic achievement
and the sociodemographic variables. If such relationships existed, we further
investigated their causality. Four-hundred and thirty nine participants answered an
online survey (Mage = 27.20, SD = 8.76, Min = 17, Max = 69), being the majority female
(n = 338). In this study we employed a sociodemographic questionnaire (adapted
version for this study from an original adaptation by Fernandes & Relva, 2008), the
General Self-Efficacy Scale (Schwarzer & Jerusalem, 1995; portuguese version by
Araújo & Moura, 2011), the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (Rosenberg, 1987;
portuguese version by Rock & Matos, 2003) and the Revised Conflict Tactics Scales
(Straus, Hamby, Boney-McCoy, & Sugarman, 1996; portuguese version by Paiva &
Figueiredo 2006, version adapted for fraternal relationships by Relva & Fernandes,
2013).
The main results show that: Self-efficacy is significantly correlated with the following
subscales of the scale perpetration of the CTS2 - SP : negotiation , ρ = .09 , p < .05 , and
physical aggression without sequelae , ρ = - .11 , p < . 05, and the following subscales
of victimization´s dimension on the same survey: negotiation, ρ = .10 , p < .05 , and
physical aggression with sequels , ρ = - .15 , p < .01 . Self-esteem was significantly
correlated with the following subscales of the scale perpetration : negotiation , ρ = .13 ,
p < .01 , psychological aggression , ρ = - .13 , p < .01 , physical aggression without
sequelae , ρ = - .14 , p < .01 , sexual coercion , ρ = - .12 , p < .05 , and physical
aggression with sequels , ρ = - .13 , p < .01 , and with the following scale victimization
subscales : negotiation , ρ = .14 , p < .01 , psychological aggression , ρ = - .16 , p < .01 , physical aggression without sequelae , ρ = - .14 , p < .01 , sexual coercion , ρ = - .11 , p
< . 05 , and assault with sequels , ρ = - .19 , p < .01 .
With regard to academic performance , there is a significant correlation between selfassessment
of academic performance and the subscale negotiation of perpetration’s
dimension , ρ = .14 , p < .01 , and the subscale negotiation of victimization’s dimension
