Hydrometra in the bitch is a rare occurence, and the underlying cause is not usually identified. More frequently, hydrometra is associated with cystic endometrial hyperplasia. In this case, the aspect of the uterine endometrium is modified by the degree of the cystic disease. We present here a case of
hydrometra, in a bitch brought for consultation with complaints of anorexia, weakness, vomit and distress. Gross evaluation of the uterus and ovaries,
obtained by ovariohysterectomy, revealed a bilateral enlarged uterus, containing a clear, nonodoriferous, water-like fluid; the ovaries were small,
without apparent superficial structures, with exception of a small nodular mass in one of the ovaries. Histopathological examination revealed that the structure of the uterine mucosa was normal, and was no sign of mucus. At histological examination of the ovary, we observed proliferation of granulosa cell tumour.
