O papel educativo dos museus: públicos, atividades e parcerias

Este artigo pretende examinar a forma como a função educativa é cumprida atualmente pelos museus científicos. Partindo do caso dos museus portugueses, são explorados os conteúdos educativos das exposições e restantes atividades promovidas pelos museus, procurando identificar os públicos a que se dirigem e as parcerias com outras organizações que lhe subjazem. Os dados apresentados permitem verificar que nas últimas décadas o desenvolvimento dos museus científicos em Portugal é acompanhado por um incremento do volume e peso dos visitantes escolares, a par de uma forte ampliação e diversificação da sua oferta educativa, tendo as pontes tanto com as entidades do campo científico (centros de investigação, universidades, sociedades científicas, docentes e investigadores) como do campo educativo (escolas e professores do ensino básico e secundário) sido substancialmente reforçadas. This article seeks to analyses how the educational function of museums is being fulfilled by scientific museums. Departing from the case of Portuguese museums, the educational content of museum exhibitions and other activities are examined, in order to identify to which audiences they are aimed and the underlying partnerships with other institutions. The data presented here shows that in the past decades the development of Portuguese scientific museums has been followed by a steep increase in the number and weight of school visitors, on a par with the growth and diversification of their educational offer. Additionally, bridges with organizations both from the scientific field (research centres, universities, scientific societies, professors and researchers) and from the educational field (elementary and secondary schools and teachers) have been substantially strengthened.
