Tese de mestrado em Ciências da Educação (História da Educação), apresentada à Universidade de Lisboa através da Faculdade de Psicologia e de Ciências da Educação, 2008 Aborda-se neste trabalho a construção do parque escolar do ensino primário em Portalegre, no período de 1900 a 1974. A sua análise é efectuada com base na informação recolhida a partir das actas das Reuniões de Câmara do Município de Portalegre e outros documentos locais. Tendo por base uma abordagem das perspectivas arquitectónicas dos edifícios escolares, é analisada a escola como uma instituição que, embora ocupando um espaço e um lugar específico ao longo do tempo, também ela foi evoluindo de acordo com as necessidades e as modificações verificadas na sociedade, tanto a nível social, curricular, didáctico, médico, higiénico e pedagógico. O parque escolar passou por diversas transformações, procurando adaptar o edifício escolar às suas funções. Neste trabalho, começa-se por efectuar uma breve abordagem histórica dos principais tipos de arquitectura escolar: Conde de Ferreira, Adães Bermudes, Plano dos Centenários e Sem Plano. Para cada um destes tipos arquitectónicos é feita uma descrição das suas principais características. A partir da análise da legislação que rege, em finais do século XIX e durante o século XX, as incumbências e competências das câmaras municipais em matérias de educação, é realizada uma reflexão histórica sobre o papel do município na educação e a política educativa seguida pelo poder local em Portalegre. Seguidamente, com base na análise das actas do município, é elaborada, reportando-se aos procedimentos administrativos, uma história dos edifícios construídos de raiz para o fim escolar na cidade de Portalegre. Em matéria de equipamentos e materiais escolares é efectuado um enquadramento histórico sobre a evolução do mobiliário e material escolar durante o período em estudo, com base nas actas da Câmara Municipal de Portalegre e nos inventários de edifícios, mobiliário e materiais didácticos existentes no arquivo do Centro de Área Educativa de Portalegre. In this investigation we report on the study of the buildings of elementary schools in Portalegre, in the period from 1900 to 1974. This analysis is based upon the minutes of Portalegre's city council meetings, as well as other local documents. Using the architects' perspectives of the school buildings, we analyse School as an institution which, although occupying a specific space and a specific place in time, has also evolved, necessitated by the transformations that took place in society, on a social, curricular, didactic, medical, hygienic and pedagogic level. The school park carried out several transformations, trying to adapt the school buildings to their main functions. In this investigation, we begin by undertaking a brief historic approach of the main types of school architecture: "Conde de Ferreira , Adães Bermudes , Plano dos Centenários e Sem Plano . For each of these architectural styles we have included a description of their main characteristics. Based on the Legislation at the end of the 19th century and during the 20th century, and considering the incumbencies and abilities of the city councils relating to education, this investigation carries out a historical reflection on the role of the city councils in terms of education and the educative politics undertooked by the local political authorities in Portalegre. Furthermore, based on the analysis of the minutes of the city council, referring to the administrative procedures, we have detailed a history of the buildings constructed with the specific purposed of serving as school buildings in the city of Portalegre. In what the equipment and school materials is concerned, this investigation carries out a historic framing on the evolution of the furniture and school material in the above mentioned period.
