Description
Tese de mestrado, Design de comunicação e novos media, Universidade de Lisboa, Faculdade de Belas Artes, 2011 The mediation processes that lead to the data-information transformation tend to remain in the
“shadow”. However, this mediation is the one that makes information intelligible. Having that
said, this dissertation intents to emphasize the importance of data-information mediation including
its creative flows, together with the current collaboration culture on the web. The idea
addressed in this document relies on the development of a methodology, capable of transforming
“raw data” into information. A case study is driven over the online epidemic data
platform Epidemic Marketplace, applying the proposed methodology. Presented here, is the
creation and development of the website for the same platform and its dynamic information
organization “model”, divided in two components: static and dynamic. The last one creates an
interactive browsing system, through metadata relations. By this, it is possible to demonstrate
that with the previous assumptions and the model that materializes it, data gain value, not being
immersed in its wilderness and frailty any more
