Descrição
Tese de mestrado em Museologia e Museografia, apresentada à Universidade de Lisboa através da Faculdade de Belas Artes, 2006 O segundo volume da tese não está disponível em formato digital, apenas poderá ser consultado na Biblioteca da FBAUL This dissertation for the master degree is about the reprogramming and the redefinition of the exhibition spaces of St. Roch Museum, taking into consideration its vocation and the plurality of its collections which are a remarkable repository of mobile art, one of the most important in Portugal, integrated in a building with very peculiar characteristics, the old Professed House of the Society of Jesus and its Church. About one hundred years old, the Museum hás always endeavoured to go beyond the limits of the different epochs, by adapting the exhibition discourse to the restrictions of the existing space. Só the work we intend to carry out is a proposal for the requalification of St. Roch Museum, a historie building integrated, in the architectonical complex of St. Roch Church, classified as national monument since 1910, equalizing with this project the preservation of the original eharacteristics of the museum, without neglecting its historie, artistic, patrimonial and symbolic value. The typological and functional multiplicity of its collections presents itself in painting, sculpture, goldsmithery, illuminations and textíles, that testify the presence of successive institutions such as the Brotherhood of St. Roch, the Society of Jesus in St. Roch Church and Professed House and the Misericórdia of Lisbon (Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa). Owing to this, as it is a place of fruition and learning as well, the museum should be understood as an exceptional site of culture in which the contextualization and the valorization of its specimen reflect the very identity of this museum. Based on new concepts of museology and museography we intend to present solutions that will allow a physical and programmatic re-structuration, adapted to a modern operative institution. In the new spaces of St. Roch Museum the heterogeneity of its collections will enable the crossing of reading and information of historie and artistic character, making clear the presentation of the diversity of the pieces kept between the 16 th and the 18 th centuries
