Description
A tese possui um CD com anexos que apenas existem em formato electrónico e que poderão ser consultados na Biblioteca da FBAUL, Cota: CDA 166 Design makes a late arrival to Portugal when compared to many other countries, and with Social Design the same has happened. When recently Portugal started its experience in Social Design it turned out that some of its characteristics result from Design in general but some of them show now a significant, evolutional increase, mostly when it comes to ethical, moral and philanthropic characteristics. These values represent Social Design and its mission and designers who work in this area share these same ideals. It's from a late but yet very successful beginning that Social Design marks its own presence in Portugal, having several designers and projects that contribute to its establishment and expansion. It is our aspiration to introduce this subject, mostly at a national level beginning with the history and evolution of Design and Social Design, making it possible to demonstrate the contrast between Portugal's situation towards Social Design and what can be witnessed internationally, revealing itself of major interest to know that despite Social Design's late arrival to our country, it has been able to make a positive impression, demonstrating a lot of quality and creativity, addressing difficult issues with an active attitude, like in the case of a growing aged population, cases of incapacities or handicaps and in cases of accessibility that contribute for an unsatisfied society that Social Design is familiar with and aspires to solve so that a better society can come to place. The relationship between Social Design and Product Design appears to be just inseparable, becoming responsible for most of the projects accomplished and that are accountable for quality products, because this relationship makes it possible to materialize the ideas investigated here, focusing the quality behind Portugal's most recent and important incursions in the important area of Social Design
