As novas configurações do cuidar em parceria têm evoluído ao longo dos tempos, refletindo as mudanças contemporâneas. A parceria de cuidados passou a significar uma responsabilidade partilhada e negociada entre todos os intervenientes no processo de cuidados, alcançável com o desenvolvimento de um trabalho articulado com os atores, os contextos e as interações, em particular na pediatria. Apesar do reconhecimento quanto ao efeito que esta configuração do cuidar tem para a saúde e o bem-estar da criança e da família, a evidência tem mostrado que a mesma não constitui parte integrante das práticas dos enfermeiros, lançando desafios a que novos estudos sejam desenvolvidos. Movidos pela necessidade da descoberta do que está por trás do fenómeno sobre o qual é essencial ganhar um novo entendimento e considerando a finalidade do estudo, formulamos a questão: “qual a natureza da parceria de cuidados entre os enfermeiros e os pais em pediatria? Perante a problemática, desenvolvemos um estudo de natureza qualitativa. Elegemos uma abordagem assente numa combinação de métodos, o método de análise de conteúdo tendencialmente inspirada na Grounded Theory. Compreender a natureza da parceria de cuidados desenvolvida entre os enfermeiros e os pais numa unidade de pediatria, constitui-se o objetivo central deste estudo. Para a obtenção dos dados recorremos à observação participante e à entrevista semiestruturada, realizada a doze enfermeiros da Unidade de Pediatria e dezoito pais/mães acompanhantes da criança no internamento, estes selecionados de acordo com critérios de intencionalidade previamente definidos. A análise e discussão reflexiva dos principais achados permitiram a compreensão da natureza do fenómeno, uma configuração do cuidar em parceria, distinto na forma de pensar e de agir nas realidades vividas nas interações, determinando a estrutura de um modelo explicativo para a (re) construção da parceria de cuidados em pediatria [MRPCP]. A partir dos pressupostos e princípios anunciados no discurso dos participantes e com base na identificação de fragilidades no processo negocial, no contexto das interações enfermeiros/pais, definiu-se a estrutura do modelo pela integração de propostas potencialmente mobilizadoras da parceria. Desenvolvimento de habilidades de comunicação e de relação interpessoal, definição clara de papéis e uso de simetria de poder na relação, são dimensões fundamentais para o sucesso negocial. The new configurations of caring in partnership have been growing through times, reflecting the contemporary changes. The partnership of care became to mean a shared and negotiated responsibility, between wholly of intervenient in the process of caring, reachable through the development of a taskforce in perfect articulation among actors, contexts and their interactions. Despite the recognition concerning the effect that this configuration of care in paediatric nursing has, on health and well-being, from children and families, the evidence has been showing that this aspect is not an integral part of the nurses’ practices, constituting a challenge for the development of new studies in this domain. Moved by the need of discovering the factors behind the phenomenon, about what is essential to gain a new knowledge, and, considering the purpose of this study, we formulated the present research question: What is the nature of the care partnership between nurses and parents in paediatric? To face the problematic, we developed a qualitative kind of study. This choice was based on the characteristics of the study and on the defined objectives which led us to select a methodological approach based on a combination of different kind of strategies. Namely, the methodological process of content analysis mostly inspired in Grounded Theory. Understand the nature of the care partnership developed by nurses and parents in a paediatric unit, constitutes the main goal for this study. To obtain the data we used the participant observation and semi-structured interview, conducted to twelve nurses of a paediatric unit and eighteen parents, of hospitalized children, selected accordingly to criteria previously and intentionality defined. The analysis and reflective discussion of the main findings enabled the understanding of the nature of the phenomenon. A phenomenon that emerged from a configuration of caring in partnership, distinct in the way of thinking and acting, in interactions lived in the individual realities, determining the structure of an explicative model for the reconstruction of the partnership of caring in pediatrics [MRPCP]. From the assumptions and principles present in the participants speeches and based on the weaknesses identified within the negotiation process in the nurse/parent interactions context, defined the structure of the model for the integration of proposals which may potentially mobilize the partnership. Together, developing communication and interpersonal relationship skills, clear definition of the roles and a balanced power distribution in the process, are fundamental to ensure a successful negotiation.
