VIII Expedição Científica do Departamento de Biologia - Faial 1993 A list of butterflies and moths collected during the "FAlAL 93 Scientific Expedition", in June/July 1993, at Faial island (Azores) is presented. As a result of this survey, 29 confirmed species (Tineidae 1, Gracillariidae 1, Yponorneutidae 1, Choreutidae 1, Pieridae 2, Lycaenidae 1, Nymphalidae 1, Pyralidae 2, Pterophoridae 1, Geometridae 3, Sphingidae 1, Noctuidae 14) were found, of which Opogona sacchari and Caloptilia aurantiaca are for the first time reported for this island. Some remarks are also given about Mythimna unipuncta (Haw.) (Lep., Noctuidae) abundance and about the relationship between armyworm and its natural enemies, specially Apanteles militaris Walsh (Hym., Braconidae). Arthropodes catched with Pitfall traps at Vulcão dos Capelinhos, included Arachnida (Araneida), Crustacea (Isopoda), Chilopoda, Diplopoda, and Insecta (Collembola; Orthoptera, Acrididae; Heteroptera, Miridae: Homoptera, Cicadelidae, Delphacidae, Aphididae; Coleoptera, Carabidae, Staphilinidae; Hymenoptera, Formicidae, Halictidae). During the expedition, 1295 lepidoptera eggs were collected at sites, of which 5.3 % were parasitized by Telenomus sp. (Hymenoptera, Scelionidae), its first record for this island.
