Description
The second rifting episode of Lusitanian Basin reached a climax during Upper Jurassic. After a transgressive event in the Oxfordian, an intense tectonic subsidence lead to the definition of three sub-basins in the central region. In the Montejunto area, the edge of the rupture was studied. Different depositional geometries resulted from an interpreted fault, which boundes a platform realm to NE from a deep basin situation to SW. Turbidite facies, olistholits, debris-flow events and coarse sandy lobes of deep sedimentation are described. Karstification evidences are noted as well, resulting from the emersion of shelf faulted blocks, during the extensional faulting.
