O presente working paper visa dar conta de alguns dos principais resultados obtidos através da realização do estudo Diagnóstico sobre a situação social dos imigrantes no concelho de Portalegre, promovido pela Câmara Municipal de Portalegre e co-financiado pelo Fundo Social Europeu. Este estudo surgiu da identificação de uma necessidade, sentida aquando das reuniões em parceria realizadas no quadro do processo de implementação da Rede Social concelhia, relativa à ausência de informação sistematizada e objectiva sobre a realidade da imigração no concelho de Portalegre, lacuna a qual impedia a definição e hierarquização de prioridades e formas de intervenção conjuntas. No estudo, de cunho sociológico, inquiriram-se mais de quatrocentas pessoas, através de um inquérito prospectivo do tipo Delphi, de um inquérito sobre as atitudes dos portalegrenses face à imigração e de um conjunto de entrevistas em profundidade a imigrantes de diferentes nacionalidades. Este aparelho metodológico foi concebido tendo em vista recolher e interpretar informação sobre três dimensões dos processos de integração social dos imigrantes: redes locais de interconhecimento e relacionamento, acesso aos serviços e valências locais e respostas psicossociais dos imigrantes ao próprio processo de integração na sociedade de acolhimento, tendo sempre em vista o planeamento estratégico de intervenções no sentido da promoção da integração social dos imigrantes no concelho. This text aims to present some of the main results obtained through the making of the study Diagnóstico sobre a situação social dos imigrantes no concelho de Portalegre, promoted by Câmara Municipal de Portalegre and co-financed by the European Social Fund. The making of this study emerged from the identification of a particular need, felt when of the partnership meetings which took place along with the implementation of the Rede Social programme in Portalegre. This need was related to the absence of objective and thorough information about immigration in Portalegre, which, at the time, was leading into a certain incapability of the local entities to define and establish priorities and, thus, make shared social interventions in the field possible. The study, based upon sociological knowledge, involved inquiring more than four-hundred people, through a Delphi inquire, an attitude inquire, answered by Portalegre’s population, and a set of in-depth interviews to immigrants of several nationalities. This methodological device was conceived in order to get and interpret information about three central dimensions of the social integration of immigrants: local-based relationships’ networks, immigrants’ access to local services and psychosocial responses, given by immigrants, to their own process of integration in Portalegre. On the other hand, the device looked forward to produce knowledge which could set a base for the strategic planning of social interventions in a local basis. The use of prospective techniques while studying immigration on a local basis will also be focused on this speak, namely in what concerns the contributions that these techniques may give to uncertainty reduction in shared processes of collective organization of action.
