Mestrado em Serviço Social Este trabalho consiste numa investigação no âmbito do Serviço Social sobre a promoção de autonomia em idosos institucionalizados. O método utilizado foi o método do estudo de caso incidindo sobre a Aldeia de S. José de Alcalar, enquadrando-se numa abordagem qualitativa e numa perspectiva organizacional, inteiramente voltado para a instituição social em causa e para a resposta social que esta desenvolve. Aborda a questão do envelhecimento enquanto problema social de visibilidade crescente quer na nossa sociedade quer no mundo, o que acarreta alterações demográficas e alterações nos próprios quadros sociais. A pertinência deste estudo remete-se para o facto de permitir a compreensão e descrição aprofundada dos procedimentos adoptados na intervenção com vista à autonomia das pessoas idosas num novo modelo de resposta social. Como procedimentos metodológicos utilizados a pesquisa contou com a observação estruturada e a aplicação de entrevistas em profundidade com a finalidade de obter informação baseada no pormenor. A aplicação da análise de conteúdo permitiu estabelecer uma relação entre os elementos teóricos, constantes no quadro teórico, e dados empíricos, resultando consecutivamente na chegada ao conhecimento sobre a autonomia nas pessoas idosas institucionalizadas na Aldeia-lar. Através do presente estudo foi possível constatar que os procedimentos de intervenção se baseiam na questão da autonomia e do empowerment. Foi igualmente possível compreender a importância da promoção da autonomia para os idosos residentes na Aldeia-lar e sistematizar como a própria instituição, os seus profissionais e os próprios idosos a promovem. This Project is a study based on Social Service and tries to investigate the promotion of the autonomy of the elder ones when institutionalized. The method followed is the study case one, emphasizing the example of S. José de Alcalar’s village. This method tries to fit perfectly in a qualitative approach and according to an organizational perspective, entirely focusing the social institution and the social answer that follows. This investigation talks about an important issue which is the question of getting old as a social problem, which is experiencing a huge increasing not even inside the society but also in the world. This situation brings demography changes and variations in social frameworks. The relevance of this study refers to the fact of allowing the comprehension and in-depth description of the adopted procedures in the intervention for the autonomy of elderly following a new method of social answer. As methodical procedures used, this research includes a well-structured observation and the use of interviews with the purpose of getting information based on the true reality. The application of content analysis allowed us to establish a relationship between the theoretical elements, contained inside the theoretical framework, and empirical details, resulting in the arrival of the knowledge about the autonomy of the old people institutionalized in the home-village. Through this study, it’s possible to determine that interventional procedures are based on the question of autonomy and empowerment. It was also acceptable to understand the importance of promoting autonomy for older people living in the home-village and systematically as the institution itself, its professionals and older people themselves to promote.
