Este working paper resulta de um desafio colocado na Unidade Curricular do primeiro ano do Programa de Doutoramento em Sociologia no ISCTE-IUL „Investigação Sociológica em Portugal‟, no qual se incentivava a uma análise ou interpretação de um domínio da sociologia nacional. Para tal, debruçou-se sobre um dos novos domínios clássicos: o género, pretendendo dar resposta às seguintes questões: Como apareceu e se desenvolveu a sociologia de género em Portugal? Como tem sido tratado o conceito de género na sociologia portuguesa? Sem pretensões de exaustividade, mas na tentativa de reflectir sobre a multiplicidade de perspectivas e sobre o percurso e desenvolvimento teórico e conceptual da sociologia de género em Portugal foram lidos livros e artigos científicos de alguns investigadores doutorados com prática de investigação regular e reconhecida no campo sociológico definido. O working paper é, deste modo, estruturado em três partes. Uma primeira em que se esboça um breve percurso das ciências sociais, e particularmente da sociologia, em Portugal. Uma segunda parte em que se particulariza esse percurso da sociologia para o campo científico da sociologia de género. E, por fim, uma terceira parte em que se procura dar a conhecer, em breves traços, a conceptualização e problematização em torno do conceito de género e suas alternativas epistemológicas. This working paper is the result of a challenge contained in the first-year Course Unit of the ISCTE-IUL PhD programme in sociology, “Sociological Research in Portugal”, of which analysis or interpretation of a national sociology field was the aim. For this, one of the new classical areas was investigated, gender, with the intention of answering the following questions: How did the sociology of gender appear and develop in Portugal? How has the concept of gender been dealt with in Portuguese sociology? In an attempt to reflect on the multiplicity of perspectives and the theoretical and conceptual course and development of the sociology of gender in Portugal, without claiming exhaustiveness, we consulted scientific articles and books by certain research PhDs whose investigation into this sociological field is regular and recognised.The working paper is structured in three parts. The first briefly sketches the course of the social sciences, and in particular sociology, in Portugal. The second part narrows this course of sociology to the scientific field of the sociology of gender. And, finally, in brief terms, the third part seeks to report the conceptualisation and problematisation on the concept of gender and the epistemological alternatives.
