Conhecer as necessidades e o grau de satisfação dos familiares dos doentes internados em unidades de cuidados intensivos é uma parte essencial dos cuidados dos profissionais de saúde, para se poderem prestar cuidados holísticos ao doente/família.
O objectivo deste estudo de investigação tem como finalidade avaliar o nível de importância e o grau de satisfação que os familiares dos doentes internados em UCI, atribuem às suas necessidades.
Trata-se de um estudo transversal analítico-correlacional, realizado na unidade de cuidados intensivos polivalente do Hospital S. Teotónio, EPE durante o período de 21 de Março a 20 de Junho de 2011. Para avaliação da importância e satisfação das necessidades dos familiares foi utilizada a versão adaptada por Melo (2005) do Critical Care Family Needs Inventory (CCFNI) e do Needs Met Inventory (NMI) respectivamente.
Foram inquiridos 60 familiares, com uma média de idade de 45 anos, sendo predominantemente do sexo feminino (60.0%), casados ou a viverem em união de facto (76.7%), a residir em meio urbano (71.7%) e com habilitações literárias entre o 2º ciclo e o ensino secundário (46.7%).
Os resultados sugerem que os familiares dos doentes internados em UCI atribuem uma grande importância às suas necessidades (valor médio superior a 3 numa escala de um a quatro). As necessidades consideradas mais importantes foram as necessidades de segurança (3,48) e informação (3,46), sendo também estas as que apresentam um maior grau de satisfação, com valor médio de 3,13 e 3,07, respectivamente. As necessidades consideradas menos importantes foram as de conforto (2,98), enquanto as menos satisfeitas foram as necessidades de suporte (2,82).
Estes resultados permitem concluir que na generalidade, os familiares encontram-se satisfeitos com o atendimento das suas necessidades por parte dos profissionais de saúde (média >2,5), no entanto esta satisfação fica aquém das suas expectativas, essencialmente na necessidade de suporte.

To know the needs and the satisfaction degree of the patient’s family members who are admitted in intensive care units is an essential part of the health care professionals, to be able to provide holistic care to the patient/family.
The objective of this research study aims to evaluate the importance level and the satisfaction degree that the patients family members admitted in the ICU give to their needs.
It’s an analytical-correctional transversal study, performed in the polyvalent intensive care unit of the Hospital S. Teotónio, EPE, between the 21st of March and the 20th of June of 2011. To evaluate the importance and satisfaction of the family members’ needs it was used the version adapted by Melo (2005) of the Critical Care Family Needs Inventory (CCFNI) and the Needs Met Inventory (NMI) respectively.
The respondents were 60 family members, with an average age of 45 year old, predominantly female (60.0%), married or living maritally (76.7%), living in an urban area (71.7%) and with qualifications between the 2nd cycle and the secondary teaching (46.7%).
The results suggest that the family members of the patients admitted in the ICU give a great importance to their needs (average higher than 3 in a scale from 1 to 4). The needs that were considered the most important were the safety needs (3,48) and information (3,46), being also the ones who present a major degree of satisfaction, with an average of 3,13 and 3,07, respectively. The needs that were considered the less important were comfort (2,98), while the less satisfied were the support needs (2,82).
These results allow to conclude that generally, the family members are satisfied with the service of their needs by the health professionals (average >2,5), however this satisfaction did not cope with the expectations, mainly in the support needs.
