During the early modern era, the city of Porto was the scenario of several popular uprisings, which have come to attract the interest of Portuguese historiography. This historiography however tends to analyse each riot as an isolated phenomenon, losing sight of important broad aspects which led to all these popular uprisings. Thus, this study aims to examine comparatively three riots in the city of Porto (1592, 1661, 1757), based on the existent descriptions of these popular uprisings. It was thus possible to conclude that, beyond the riots in the city of Porto, there were many clear motivations, featured places, leaderships and consequences encouraging their outbreak.-
