In this text evaluation is understood not as a technical and practical procedure, but as a methodological operation, apllied to information in any context of production and use, in the scope of Information Science. It hasn‘t therefore an end in itself, disconnected from a broader Method, which associates the comprehensive and sicentific approach to the applicational or technical ones, as it is convenient to a discipline such as Information Science, inserted in the field of applied Social Sciences. The Method in which evaluation is seen and used is named Quadripolar (based on four poles or elliptical stages: epistemological pole, theoretical pole, technical pole and morphological pole) andi t is presented as an alternative that fits the needs of a qualitative research. It appears, therefore, as a global way of approach, settled in criticisms to Positivism and Relativism dictated by complex and systemic thinking. There are also proposed criteria and parameters in order to the application of evaluation, in an objective way, taking into account the information‘s life cycle, the renewal and obsolescente of knowledge and the importante of memory for the long time preservation of informacional products
