Trabalho de Projeto
apresentado ao Instituto de Contabilidade e Administração do Porto para a
obtenção do grau de Mestre em Tradução e Interpretação Especializadas,
sob orientação do Dr. Manuel Fernando Moreira da Silva O plano deste projeto foi traçado a partir do interessantíssimo documentário
intitulado Memórias do Ofício tendo sido, desde a sua criação, dividido em segmentos
ou, melhor dizendo, tarefas, em que se destacam a sua tradução e legendagem.
Memórias do Ofício leva-nos a um passado recente, de um ofício quase perdido:
fazer sapatos de forma artesanal. E quando aqui dizemos fazer sapatos referimo-nos a
todo o trabalho que medeia entre o corte da peça de couro e o sapato pronto a ser usado.
Três gerações de mestres-sapateiros – Tio Firmino, Sr. João e Zé das Ribas –
descrevem com o realismo e vivacidade a arte de fazer sapatos. É, portanto, um
documentário real e vívido, alimentado de memórias e para a memória da cultura de um
povo.
Irá ser abordado, para a análise das diferentes tarefas desenvolvidas, os conceitos
de tradução, transcrição e legendagem, que são transversais a todo o trabalho aqui
apresentado. Todavia, este trabalho não ficaria completo se não se apresentasse uma
importante, ainda que breve, abordagem ao mundo do documentário.
Após uma identificação e descrição do caso de estudo, irá ser igualmente
descrito a metodologia e os passos seguidos até à edição do vídeo legendado. The plan of this project was drawn from the interesting documentary entitled
Shoemaking Memories, and was, since its creation, divided into segments, or rather,
tasks, on which the translation and subtitling stand out.
Shoemaking Memories leads us to a recent past, of an almost lost craft: making
shoes by hand. And when we say making shoes, we mean all the work that goes from
cutting a leather piece to the shoe ready to be used.
Three generations of master shoemakers – Uncle Firmino, João Ribas and Zé das
Ribas – describe with realism and vividness the art of making shoes. It is therefore a
real and vivid, documentary, powered by memory and for the memory of the culture of
a people.
Addressing, for the analysis of the different tasks performed, concepts of
translation, transcription and subtitling that are transversal to all the work presented
here. However, this work would be incomplete if a significant, albeit brief, approach to
the world of documentary was not made.
After an identification and description of the case-study itself, the methodology
and the followed steps until the edition of the subtitled video will also be described.
