A educação necessita de providências, por parte do Governo, no intuito de favorecer os professores, dando-lhes condições propícias de desenvolver bem o trabalho docente e proporcionar, aos discentes, sucesso em seus estudos e em suas profissões. A pesquisa procurou responder à seguinte questão central: qual o perfil do professor do Ensino Fundamental no âmbito do público e do privado, diante da busca de uma educação de qualidade? Para responder à questão, traçou-se, como objetivo geral, identificar o perfil dos professores do Ensino Fundamental das redes pública e privada do município de Itaporanga – PB, e como objetivos específicos, conhecer o Plano Político Pedagógico que rege o ensino da escola pública e da escola privada; verificar as condições sociopolítico-econômico-culturais dos professores de Itaporanga - PB e analisar, através das narrativas dos professores, suas perspectivas, percepções e representações do aspecto didático-pedagógico. Apresenta como principal referencial teórico os seguintes autores: Nóvoa (1995), Libâneo, (1998) e Foerste, (2005). Adotou-se a metodologia quantitativa e qualitativa, através de um estudo exploratório e descritivo. Foram entregues 121 questionários aos professores que lecionam nas Escolas Públicas e Privadas de Itaporanga – PB. Os mesmos responderam a todas as questões sendo que poucos professores optaram por deixar algumas questões em branco. É importante mencionar que os questionários respondidos pelos professores subsidiaram a realização da pesquisa. Os resultados e discussões destacam que os professores das escolas pesquisadas são bem preparados, uma vez que existe um percentual significativo de docentes que apresentam diversidade de cursos: 19,8% dos professores possuem Licenciatura em Pedagogia; 9,9% têm Curso de Licenciatura em Letras e para confirmar a eficiência dos professores da referida cidade, detectou-se um percentual de 23,1% dos docentes que têm Curso de Pós-Graduação. O trabalho aborda uma pesquisa em que são comparados os docentes da cidade de Itaporanga – PB, com o que está exposto em “O perfil dos professores brasileiros”, publicação da Pesquisa Nacional Unesco, 2004. The education needs steps, on the part of the Government, in intention to favor the professors, being given to them propitious conditions to develop the teaching work well and to provide, to the learning, success in its studies and its professions. The research looked for to answer to the following central question: which the profile of the professor of Basic Teaching in the scope of the public and the private one, ahead of the search of an education of quality? To answer to the question, it was traced, as objective generality, to identify the profile of the professors of Basic Teaching of the nets public and private of the city of Itaporanga - PB, and as objective specific, to know the Plan Pedagogical Politician who conducts the education of the public school and the private school; to verify the sociopolitical-economic-cultural conditions of the professors of Itaporanga - PB and to analyze, through the narratives of the professors, its perspectives, perceptions and representations of the didactic-pedagogical aspect. It presents as main theoretical reference the following authors: Nóvoa (1995), Libâneo, (1998) and Foerste, (2005). It was adopted quantitative and qualitative methodology, through a exploratory and descriptive study. 121 questionnaires were delivered to teachers who teach in the Public and Private School of Itaporanga – PB. They answered all the questions and few teachers chose to leave some questions blank. It is important to mention that the questionnaires answered by teachers supported the realization of search. The results and quarrels detach that the professors of the searched schools well are prepared, a time that exists a significant percentage of professors who present diversity of courses: 19.8% of the professors possess Graduation in Pedagogy; 9.9% have Course of Graduation in Letters and to confirm the efficiency of the professors of the related city, detected a percentage of 23,1% of the professors who have Postgraduate Course.
