Em Portugal o uso de técnicas de reprodução assistida aumentou exponencialmente nos últimos anos, com especial incidência para a inseminação artificial com sémen refrigerado.
O objetivo desta dissertação para além de rever alguma da bibliografia descrita sobre a inseminação artificial com sémen refrigerado, é também o de calcular a taxa de gestação, de um grupo de 56 éguas, sujeitas a um rigorosos controlo reprodutivo e inseminadas com sémen refrigerado bem como o de determinar a influência das variáveis: altura do ano, ovário ovulatório, raça e idade, sobre a taxa de gestação obtida.
Do total das 56 éguas inseminadas 43 apresentaram diagnóstico de gestação positivo demonstrando uma taxa de gestação de 77%. A análise estatística demonstrou que as variáveis: raça da égua , altura do ano de inseminação (P=0,120), ovário ovulatório (P=0,120), idade da égua (P=0,315) não tiveram influência na taxa de gestação obtida. In Portugal, the use of assisted reproduction techniques has increased exponentially in recent years, with particular emphasis on artificial insemination with cooled semen.
The aim of this thesis was to review the state of the art of artificial insemination with cooled semen and also calculating the pregnancy rate of a group of 56 mares that were, subjected to rigorous reproductive control reproductive and that were inseminated with cooled semen. The aim of this study was also to determine the influence of: insemination season , ovulatory ovarian, breed, and age on the pregnancy rate. Of the total of 56 mares inseminated 43 showed positive pregnancy diagnosis showing a pregnancy rate of 77%. Statistical analysis proved that the variables: age, time of insemination (P = 0.120), ovulatory ovarian (P = 0.120), age (P = 0.315) did not influence the pregnancy rate.
