Na literatura científica regista-se um grande aumento do interesse no
fenómeno do envelhecimento. Esta temática atual requer muita atenção por
parte dos profissionais que lidam com a população idosa. Importa saber que
comportamentos, emoções e pensamentos estão implicados nesta fase do
ciclo de vida. Que atitudes são tomadas perante a velhice e que importância
estas assumem para o bem-estar subjectivo das pessoas idosas. Assim,
validou-se a escala Attitudes do Ageing Questionnaire - AAQ (Atitudes Face
o Envelhecimento, Laidlaw et al., 2007) na população portuguesa para em
seguida se poder avaliar qual a influência das atitudes sobre o
envelhecimento no bem-estar subjectivo. Utilizou-se uma amostra de 120
sujeitos idosos entre os 65 e 93 anos, que responderam a um questionário
sócio-demográfico, a um teste de rastreio cognitivo (MMSE), uma escala de
afetividade (PANAS), uma escala de satisfação com a vida (SWLS), um
teste que mede sintomatologia depressiva (GDS) e o AAQ que comporta três
subescalas (Perdas Psicossociais, Mudança Física e Crescimento
Psicológico). A organização deste instrumento de cariz internacional, que
vai permitir a avaliação das atitudes perante o envelhecimento em diferentes
culturas apresentou-se nestes três factores e revelou-se adequada à
operacionalização e avaliação das atitudes face o envelhecimento, avaliada
por sujeitos idosos, o que também foi corroborado noutros estudos com o
AAQ. Este estudo permite concluir que atitudes mais positivas perante o
envelhecimento aparecem associadas a maior afeto positivo e satisfação com
a vida. In the scientific literature has been a large increase of interest in the
aging phenomenon. This current issues requires much attention from
professionals who deal with the elderly population. It’s fundamental to know
what behaviors, emotions and thoughts are involved in this life’s cycle
phase. What attitudes are made towards old age and what assume importance
for the subjectivity welfare of the elderly. The scale of Ageing Attitudes
Questionnaire - AAQ (Laidlaw et al., 2007) was validated in the Portuguese
population to then be able to assess what influences attitudes about aging in
subjective well-being. We used a sample from 120 subjects aged from 65 to
93 years, who answered a socio-demographic questionnaire, a cognitive
screening test (MMSE), a scale of affectivity (PANAS), a scale of life
satisfaction (SWLS), a test that measures depressive symptoms (GDS) and
the AAQ which involve three subscales (psychosocial losses, physical
change and psychological growth). The organization of this internacional’s
tool will allow the attitudes evaluation towards aging on different cultures in
those three factors that has proved to be suitable for the operationalization
and evaluation of attitudes towards aging, evaluated by the elderly, which
has also been supported in other studies with the AAQ. The present study
supports the conclusion that more positive attitudes towards aging are
