This paper presents the results of a research on the perception of environmental risks in the Coast of the towns of Areia Branca (RN, Brazil) and Figueira da Foz (Center of Portugal). It was supported in the application of structured questionnaires in the populations of both towns, having been boarded about 100 people along the coastal communities of each one of the places. The results recorded some significant differences of risk awareness between the two territories that point, among others issues, the need for implementation of risk culture in the process of land planning and management of the coast.
