A península de Peniche localiza-se na costa oeste portuguesa, integrada numa belíssima paisagem dominada pelo oceano Atlântico. As falésias calcárias da península constituem um local único para observar e estudar a sucessão mais completa do Jurássico inferior de Portugal, cujos afloramentos são considerados de excelente qualidade. A excelência do registo geológico tem levado ao aparecimento de variados artigos científicos em diversos campos da geologia sedimentar, alguns dos quais com impacto internacional. Neste trabalho faremos uma descrição do património geológico fundamentada na literatura existente, no trabalho de campo e em algumas experiências educativas com estudantes e público em geral. Assim, apresentamos o inventário de seis locais da península que mostram especial interesse geológico com relevância nacional e internacional. The Peniche peninsula is located in the western coast of Portugal, in a landscape dominated by the Atlantic Ocean. The calcareous cliffs of Peniche peninsula are a unique place to observe and study the most complete succession of the Lower Jurassic in Portugal, whose outcrops are considered of excellent quality. The excellence of the geological record led to a huge number of scientific papers referred to a variety of fields in sedimentary geology, some of them with international impact. In this work we present a description of the geological heritage of this area, based on previous literature, field work and some educational experiences involving students and the general public. In this context, we present the results of an inventory of six sites in the Peniche peninsula which show special geological interest with national and international relevance.
