Este trabalho retrata a transformação da Artilharia de Campanha dos Estados Unidos durante a sua presença no Teatro de Operações do Afeganistão, mais propriamente de 2002 a 2011. Como objetivos trata de identificar as transformações dos sistemas de armas e da sua organização face ao teatro de operações anteriormente referido. Também identifica as transformações que o Grupo de Artilharia de Campanha do Regimento de Artilharia nº 4 sofreu desde 2002, determinando a possível relação entre o caso dos Estados Unidos, no Afeganistão com a transformação do Grupo de Artilharia de Campanha do Regimento de Artilharia nº4. Para tal, utiliza como método científico o método indutivo, fazendo a seleção dos aspetos mais relevantes durante as operações da Artilharia de Campanha no Afeganistão, fazendo a sua interpretação dando resposta às perguntas derivadas e possibilitando responder à pergunta de partida “Terá o Grupo de Artilharia de Campanha Portuguesa sofrido alterações nas suas componentes do Sistema de Armas face às operações dos Estados Unidos no Afeganistão?”. O presente trabalho demonstra que se deram transformações nos Estados Unidos, a nível dos materiais, especificamente nas armas e munições utilizadas e que em relação ao Grupo de Artilharia de Campanha Portuguesa, o Grupo estudado sofreu uma transformação ao nível das suas armas, dos sistemas de comando e controlo e da parte organizacional da força. Abstract This work portraits the transformation of United Sates Field Artillery during its presence in the Afghanistan’s Theater of Operations, specifically between 2002 and 2011. As objectives it identifies the transformations of the weapons systems and its organization in that Theater of Operations. It also identifies the transformations that the Field Artillery Battalion of the Artillery Regiment nº 4 has suffered since 2002, establishing the possible relation between the situation of the United States, in Afghanistan, and the transformation of the Field Artillery Battalion of the Artillery Regiment nº 4. To do that, the scientific method used is the inductive method, making a selection of the most relevant features during the operations of the Field Artillery in Afghanistan, making also its interpretation and answering to the derivate questions leading to the answer of the main question “Has the Portuguese Field Artillery Battalion suffered changes in its Weapon System’s components accordingly the United States operations in Afghanistan?”. This work demonstrates that some transformations have occurred in the United States, regarding its materials, specifically on its weapons and ammunitions employed, and referring to the Portuguese Field Artillery Battalion, the studied Battalion suffered changes on its weapons, its command and control systems and its force’s organization.
